Էրնան Մարիա Գալարացա անունով տղամարդը ձկնորսության ժամանակ հանկարծ նկատել է, որ քիչ հեռու արևահարվող երեք աղջիկ երեխաները անհետացել են: Վայրկյաններ անց նա նկատել է ծովի ալիքներում շարժվող օբյեկտներ, ձկնորսը նախ մտածել է, որ դրանք լողացող ուսապարկեր են, սակայն արագ կողմնորոշվել ու հասկացել է, որ դրանք հենց կորած երեխաներն են:
Գալարացան նկատել է, որ իր կարթը խճճվել է ու հետևել է դրա ուղղությանը: Նա հասկացել է, որ ծովում հայտված աղջիկներից մեկը բռնվել է կարթից: Ձկնորսը որոշ ժամանակ շարունակել է պինդ բռնել կարթը, այնուհետև սկսել է օգնություն փնտրել:
Տղամարդը տարածքում գտել է 17-ամյա երիտասարդի, որն էլ առանց երկմտելու ցատկել է ջուրն ու փրկել աղջիկներին:
Քանի դեռ ձկնորսը հեռացել էր ափից՝ աղջիկներից մեկը կարողացել է ինքնուրույն դուրս գալ ափ: Պատանին կարողացել է դուրս հանել ևս մեկին, քանի դեռ ձկնորսը պահում էր կարթը:
Փրկված երեխաները եղել են 11-13 տարեկան:
«Դա շատ լարված պահ էր, սարսափելի էր տեսնել, թե ինչպես են նրանք մահանում: Եթե ես ոչինչ չանեի նրանց փրկելու համար, նման տեսարանն ամբողջ կյանքում չէր հեռանա աչքերիս դիմացից», - պատմել է ձկնորսը:
Երեխաներին ջրից դուրս բերելուց հետո նրանց տեղափոխել են շտապօգնության կենտրոն:
