Բելլը հեռախոս չի ստեղծել, այլ յուրացրել է գյուտը

Հեռախոսը ստեղծել է Ալեքսանդր Բելլը 1876 թվականին։
Բելլը տաղանդավոր գյուտարար էր, մասնավորապես ստեղծել է ֆոնոավտոգրաֆը, աուդիոմետրը, ֆոտոֆոնը, անգամ ստորջրյա թևերով նավակ, պիրամիդալ օդապարիկ և այլն, սակայն ոչ հեռախոսը։
Իրականում հեռախոսը Բելլից հինգ տարի առաջ ստեղծել է Անտոնիո Մեուչչին։
1850 թվականին Միացյալ Նահանգներ է ներգաղթել էքսցենտրիկ ու տաղանդավոր իտալացի գյուտարար Մեուչչին: Անգլերենին վատ տիրապետող և միայն գործազրկության նպաստով ապրող այդ գյուտարարին չի բավականացրել 10 դոլար, որպեսզի գրանցի իր գյուտը, որը նա անվանել էր «տելետրոֆոն»։ Առաջին անգամ Մեուչչին այն ցուցադրել էր 1860 թվականին՝ Բելլից 5 տարի առաջ, նախնական հայտով ժամանակավոր արտոնագրել այն, բայց մեկ տարի անց լաստանավի կաթսայի պայթյունի հետևանքով ստացել էր այրվածքներ և փողի բացակայության պատճառով չէր կարողացել վերաարտոնագրել գյուտը։ Երբ 1876 թվականին Բելլը արտոնագրեց հեռախոսը, Մեուչչին դատի տվեց նրան, սակայն չապրեց մինչև դատական գործընթացի ավարտը և մահացավ աղքատության մեջ։
Կան փաստեր, որոնք հաստատում են, որ Բելլը յուրացրել է գյուտը։
Մասնավորապես Բելլի կողմից հեռախոսը արտոնագրելուց երկու տարի առաջ իտալացին ինքնատիպ էսքիզներ և աշխատանքային մոդելներ էր ուղարկել «Western Union» ամերիկյան հեռագրական ընկերության լաբորատորիա։ Տարօրինակ զուգադիպությամբ Բելլը աշխատում էր հենց այդ լաբորատորիայում, և այդ նյութերը խորհրդավոր կերպով անհետացան։ Հետաքրքիր է, որ Բելլը իրեն համարում էր «խուլերի ուսուցիչ», քանի որ նրա մայրը, քույրը և աշակերտներից մի քանիսը խլություն ունեին։ Սա խոսում է այն մասին, որ Բելլին խիստ հետաքրքրում էր այն ամենը, ինչ կապված է լսողության հետ։ Ի վերջո, Բելլը նաև լավ գործարար էր։ Նա ստեղծեց առաջին հեռախոսային ընկերությունը և բավական հարստացավ։
Բայց և այնպես, երբեմն արդարությունը հաղթում է: 2004 թ. ԱՄՆ Կոնգրեսի Ներկայացուցիչների պալատը բանաձև է ընդունել «Անտոնիո Մեուչչիի կյանքն ու ձեռքբերումները հարգելու և հեռախոսի գյուտի՝ իր արժանիքները ճանաչելու անհրաժեշտության մասին»:
