Մենք գիտենք, որ...

 

Կենգուրու բառը ավստրալիայի նախաբնիկների լեզվով նշանակում է «ես քեզ չեմ հասկանում»: Լեգենդն ասում է, որ Ավստրալիա ժամանած Ջեյմս Կուկի արշավախմբի անդամների այն հարցին, թե ինչպես է այս կենդանու անունը, տեղացիները պատասխանել են՝ կենգուրու, այսինքն՝ ես քեզ չեմ հասկանում

Իրականում այդպես չէ:

Հարցն այն է, որ 18–րդ դարում Ավստրալիայում ապրում էին ավելի քան 700 մարդկային ցեղեր, որոնք խոսում էին մոտ 250 տարբեր լեզուներով: «Կենգուրու» (կամ «գանգարու») բառը մեզ է հասել Բոտանի–Բեյ շրջանում ապրող գուուգու–յիմիտխիր ցեղից, նրանք կենգուրու ասում էին մեծ սև կամ գորշ կենդանուն, բառացիորեն «գագաու» նրանց լեզվով նշանակում էր մեծ ցատկող:

Երբ անգլիացի գաղութարարները նոր տարածքներ բնակեցնելու համար խորացան երկրի խորքը, նրանք օգտագործում էին կենգուրու բառը ցանկացած պարկավոր կենդանու համար: Բոտանի–Բեյ շրջանից 2250 կիլոմետր հեռավորության վրա ապրող բագանդի ցեղը չէր խոսում գուուգու–յիմիտխիր ցեղի լեզվով: Նրանք, գաղութարարներից լսելով «կենգուրու» բառը, որոշեցին, որ դա նշանակում է «կենդանի, որի մասին առաջ ոչ մեկը ոչինչ չգիտեր», և քանի որ նրանք երբեք ձի չէին տեսել (Ավստրալիայում ձիեր չեն եղել), տրամաբանորեն ձիերին սկսեցին կոչել կենգուրու: Սա տիպիկ «մշակութային չհասկացվածության» երևույթ է: Այստեղից էլ հենց գալիս է լեգենդը, որ կենգուրու նշանակում է՝ ես քեզ չեմ հասկանում: Կենգուրուն (լատիներեն Macropodidae, հայերեն՝ ագեվազ) պարկավոր կաթնասունների ընտանիք է: Սա խոտակեր, հետին վերջույթները լավ զարգացած կենդանի է: Կենգուրուները տեղից տեղ են տեղափոխվում նուրբ ցատկերով: Նրանց որոշ տեսակների քաշը կարող է հասնել մինչև 80 կիլոգրամի, իսկ թռիչքի երկարությունը՝ մինչև 12 մետրի: Չնայած իր հսկայական չափերին, կենգուրուն ծնում է մի քանի գրամանոց խուլ և կույր ձագեր, որոնք զարգանում և մեծանում են մոր պարկում: Մոր գրպանում փոքրիկը կախվում է պտուկից և բաց չի թողնում իր «կեցավայրը», մինչև ի վիճակի չի լինում ինքնուրույն սնվել։ Նա առաջին անգամ իր գլուխը դուրս է հանում գրպանից 5–6 ամսականում։ Ինչքան յուրահատուկ են այս պարկավոր կենդանիները, այնքան էլ խառնաշփոթ է տիրում նրանց անվան ծագման հարցում: Այս կենդանիներին իրականում առաջինը նկարագրել է ոչ թե Ջեյմս Կուկը, այլ անգլիացի նավագնաց Ուիլ յամ Դամպիրը: Նա 1699 թվականին այցելել է Ավստրալիա և նոթերում գրել, որ տեսել է խոշոր ցատկող կենդանու, որին տեղաբնակները կոչում էին կանգարրո: Այս բառի բացատրությունը Դամպերը չի նշել: Փոքր ցատկող կենդանիներին նախաբնիկները կոչելիս են եղել «ուոլարու», սա հիմա լեռնային կենգուրուների ցեղի գիտական անվանումն է: 

Մենք գիտենք, որ կա երեխաների «Կենգուրու» միջազգային մաթեմատիկական մրցույթ: Սկսած 2009 թվականից այն անցկացվում է նաև Հայաստանում և շատ տարածված ու սիրելի է: Այս դեպքում արդեն անվան ստուգաբանությունը հայտնի է: Մրցույթը իրականում կոչվում է «Կենգուրու», քանի որ այն առաջին անգամ կայացել է Ավստրալիայում և հետո տարածվել աշխարհով: Բայց կարելի է ասել, որ այս մրցույթը կոչվում է «Կենգուրու» նաև այն պատճառով, որ այն որոշ աշակերտների համար «մեծ ցատկ» է: Միևնույն ժամանակ որոշների համար մրցույթը ընդամենը նշանակում է «ես քեզ չեմ հասկանում»:
