Սարգսյան-Կարապետյան երկընտրանքը 2018թ. վարչապետության հարցում գնալով ավելի է մոտենում իր տրամաբանական հանգուցալուծմանը: Եթե հանգուցալուծումն ավարտվի Կարապետյանի հաղթանակով, պարզ է, թե ինչ է սպասվում Հայաստանին ՝ տնտեսական և քաղաքական համակարգի վերադասավորում, արտաքին քաղաքական առաջնահերթությունների փոփոխություն: Սարգսյանի հաղթանակի դեպքում ոչինչ պարզ չէ:
Սարգսյանի վարչապետության հեռանկարը ենթադրում է, որ իրավիճակն ու քաղաքական համակարգի կառուցվածքը մնալու է նույնը: Թերևս սա է պատճառներից մեկը, որ հանրապետականներից շատերը ցանկանում են, որ Սարգսյանը մնա ՝ նրանք ուզում են մնալ գործող խաղի կանոնների շրջանակներում: Բայց նաև ակնհայտ է, որ Սարգսյանի մնալ-չմնալու հարցը և վարչապետացման գործընթացը, որ ըստ էության լինելու է նրա վերջին ակտը, վերջին հաղթանակը, իրենցից հետևից բերելու են դատարկություն, որը ինչ-որ կերպ պետք է լցնել:
Եթե երկրի ղեկավարը չի հեռանում, որոշում է մնալ, հաղթահարում է իր մրցակիցների խոչընդոտները, պիտի նաև առաջարկի պլան մաքսիմում: Պլան մինիմում սպասելն այլևս անիմաստ էլ. այն կարելի է իրացնել նախագահական սահմանված ժամկետում: Հավելյալ մնացողից սպասելիքները ևս հավելյալ են լինելու: Սովորաբար նման դեպքերում քաղաքական համակարգը տրանսֆորմացվում է ավտորիտարիզմի տարբեր ձևերի:
Օրինակ Ռուսաստանում, Պուտինի երկու նախագահություններից ու վարչապետական դադարից հետո, երրորդ փուլը նշանավորվեց կայսերապաշտաան նկրտումների ակտիվացմամբ: Բելառուսում և Ղազախստանում 90-ականների կեսերից ինքնաբավ ու փակ ավտորիտարզմ է զարգանում: Ադրբեջանում՝ միապետական ռեժիմ ՝ ժառանգականության սկզբունքով ու քողարված նախագահական համակարգի տակ: Ո՞ր ճանապարհով կգնա Հայաստանը ՝ Սարգսյանի իշխանության երրորդ փուլում: Ավտորիտարիզմի համար պետք են ռեսուրսներ ու խարիզմատիկ լիդերի հատկանիշներ: Հայաստանը ռեսուրսներ չունի, Սարգսյանն էլ ՝ խարիզմա: Կարծես փակ է նաև եվրոպական ճանապարհը: Իսկ նույնը մնալ իրավիճակը չի կարող: Այսինքն կարող է, բայց այդ դեպքում չի մնա Հայաստանը:
