Երկրում ստեղծված սոցիալ-տնտեսական դժգոհությանը զուգընթաց ամենաքննարկվող թեմաներից է նաև երկրի ապագա նախագահի հարցը: Ամեն ինչ ավելի ընդգծվեց, երբ գործող նախագահը հայտարարեց, որ այդ պաշտոնում, որպես արժանի թեկնածու կուսակցությունը տեսնում է Մեծ Բրիտանիայի ներկայիս դեսպան Արմեն Սարգսյանին: Բանն այն է, որ ըստ փոփոխված Սահմանադրության, նախագահն ընտրվելու է ոչ թե հանրաքվեի միջոցով, այլ ընտրվելու է խորհրդարանի կողմից: Նախատեսվել է 3 փուլ, որոնցից առաջին փուլի համար անցողիկ քվեների քանակը ընդհանուր պատգամավորների թվի ¾ է, իսկ երկրորդի համար՝ 3/5: Տարբեր հարթակներից տարատեսակ կարծիքներ հնչեցին, որոնցից ոմանք չհիմնավորված և անտրամաբանական լինելուց զատ, իրենց մեջ նաև սադրանք են պարունակում: Ճիշտ կլիներ նման անհասկանալի դիրք գրավելու փոխարեն, փորձեին հարցն ավելի խորքային դիտարկել և օպտիմալ եզրահանգման գալ, ինչը բնականաբար տրամաբանական հարթակում քննարկման լավ առիթ կլիներ: Սակայն հիմա կոնկրետ ՀՀ նախագահի պաշտոնի վերաբերյալ, ասենք թե ընդդիմությունը դեմ քվեարկեց ու նախագահը ընտրվեց ոչ թե առաջին, այլ երկրորդ փուլով, դրանից ինչ են շահելու, դրանից ի՞նչ է շահելու հասարակությունը: Պատասխանը մեկն է ու շատ պարզ, ոչնի՛նչ, այդ դեպքում նման աննպատակ ու արկածախնդիր գործողությունը կարող է հակառակ էֆեկտ ստանալ: Այս համատեքստում էլ, ընդդիմությանն ուղղված բոլոր պոպուլիստական կոչերը՝ նախագահի թեկնածուին ինքնանպատակ դեմ քվեարկելու համար, կորցնում են իրենց արժեքն ու ակտուալությունը, տվյալ քաղաքական ուժն ինքը պետք է որոշի, թե այդ պարագայում որոնք են շոշափելի հիմքերը թեկնածուին դրական կամ բացասական վերաբերմունքի արժանացնելու համար: Ու քանի դեռ չկա համապատասխան քննարկում այս թեմայի շուրջ, չկա վերջնական դիրքորոշում դաշտում, մնում է սպասել և ըմբռնումով մոտենալ քաղաքական ուժերից յուրաքանչյուրի դիրքորոշմանը:
