Երեկ Միջազգային օլիմպիական կոմիտեն զրկեց Ռուսաստանի հավաքականին Ձմեռային օլիմպիադային մասնակցելու իրավունքից: Ռուս մարզիկներն, ովքեր դոպինգային սկանդալի մեջ չեն հայտնվել կարող են մասնակցել օլիմպիադային նեյտրալ դրոշի ներքո: Ռուսաստանում այժմ բուռն քննարկումներ են սկսվել տեղի ունեցածի կապակցությամբ: Մի կողմից այդ որոշումը ընկալվում է, որպես հերթական հակառուսական պատժամիջոց: Մյուս կողմից ՝ քննարկվում է, արդյոք մարզիկները կարող են նեյտրալ դրոշի ներքո ներկայանալ, թե ոչ: 

Ներկայիս ռուսական իրականության մեջ այդ որոշումը ոչ թե առանձին վերցրած մարզիկների, այլ հասարակական-քաղաքական կյանքի քննարկման առիթ է: Ռուսաստանի հանդեպ արևմտյան պատժամիջոցները, փաստորեն, բացի տնտեսականից ու քաղաքականից, կրում են սպորտային բնույթ: 

Բայց հասկանալի է, որ այս սկանդալային որոշման հետևում ևս քաղաքական մոտիվացիաներ են: Մասնավորապես փորձ է արվում Ռուսաստանում հրահրել ներհասարակական պառակտում, այն է հավաքականին զրկելով մասնակցությունից, իսկ մարզիկներին շանս տալով ներկայանալ նեյտրալ դրոշով, սադրվում են քննարկումներ ու պառակտումներ ռուս ազգի միասնականության, Ռուսաստանի պատվի և նմանատիպ այլ վերացական բաների մասին, որոնցով այդքան շատ են սիրում զբաղեցնել իրենց ռուսները: Վկան ՝ բազմաթիվ հեռուստաշոուները, որոնց հիմնական թեման ռուսական արմատների պաշտպանությունն է:
