2017 թվականի հունվար-սեպտեմբեր ամիսներին Հայաստանում 2963 ամուսնալուծություն է գրանցվել: 2016-ի նույն ժամանակահատվածի համեմատ, ամուսնալուծությունների ցուցանիշն աճել է 10,5%-ով: 

Ամուսնալուծությունների աճի ցուցանիշը մտահոգիչ է, մանավանդ այն կոնտեքստում, երբ խոսվում է Հայաստանում դեմոգրաֆիական խնդիրների ու դրանց լուծման անհրաժեշտությունների մասին: Անշուշտ, աչքի առաջ ունենալով 90-ականների սոցիալապես ծանր տարիները, չի կարելի պնդել, թե ամուսնալուծությունների միակ պատճառը սոցիալական ու տնտեսական վատթարացումն է: 

Բացի այդ. դեմոգրաֆիական մի շարք խնդիրներ, այդ թվում ամուսնալուծությունների աճը, ծնունդների նվազումը և այլն, հատկանշական են նաև զարգացող տնտեսություն ունեցող երկրների համար: Ինչը նշանակում է, որ բացառապես սոցիալ-տնտեսական ինդիկատորով ամուսնալուծությունները բացահայտելը սխալ է:

Հայաստանի դեպքում ամուսնալուծությունների աճն առավելապես կապված է հասարակական ու մշակութային համակարգերի փոփոխությունների հետ: Երիցս առիթ է եղել փաստելու, որ ավանդական, համայնական կենսաձևն այլևս կորցրել է իր կենսունակությունը, ինչը դրսևորվում է կյանքի բազմաթիվ ոլորտներում: Սրան զուգահեռ սակայն, հասարակությունը չի արդիականացվել այնքան, որ հարաբերությունները կարգավորվեն քաղաքացիականության, ինդիվիդուալիզմ ու օրինականության գործիքակազմերով: 

Հայաստանն այժմ շարունակում է դոփել անցումային հասարակությունների բնորոշ միջանկյալ փուլում, չկարողանալով ներդաշնակեցնել ներկայիս մարտահրավերներն իր կացութաձևի ավանդական դրսևորումների հետ, միաժամանակ անկարող լինելով ինստիտուցիոնալիզացնել հանրային կյանքն ու միջանձնային հարաբերությունները:
