«Արմենպրես»-ի հետ զրույցում Էդուարդ Շարմազանովը նշել է, թե դժվարանում է տեսնել ավելի իմաստուն, փորձառու և պատրաստված, ավելի հավասարակշռված քաղաքական գործիչ, քան Սերժ Սարգսյանը: Իսկ հետո հավելել է ՝ «Ես մի բան կարող եմ ասել`նա Հայաստանի ամենամեծ քաղաքական ուժի անվիճարկելի առաջնորդն է և այդպես շարունակելու է մնալ տեսանելի ապագայում: Սա ոչ թե կուսակցության, մեր բոլորիս ցանկությունն է, այլ անհրաժեշտություն է: Հայաստանում չկա մեկ այլ գործիչ, ով կկարողանա անվտանգության և այլ քաղաքական մարտահրավերների դիմակայումն ավելի լավ կազմակերպել, քան մեր երկրի նախագահը:
Մի կողմ թողնենք Շարմազանովի լիրիկական զեղումը: Առավել կարևոր է այն, որ Շարմազանովը պաշտոնական տեսք է տալիս Սերժ Սարգսյան-Կարեն Կարապետյան դիմակայության ժամանակ Սարգսյանի թևի հիմնական թեզերից մեկին ՝ Սարգսյանը կարող է Արցախի անվտանգությունն ու խնդրի բանակցային կողմն ապահովել, Կարապետյանը ՝ ոչ: Ճշմարտության առաջ չմեղանչելու համար փաստենք, որ սա իսկապես աշխատող թեզ է: Կարապետյանին չի հաջողվել ձևավորել ռազմական գործչի, անվտանգության հարցերով հմուտ քաղգործչի կերպար:
Ենթադրենք Շարմազանովը ճիշտ է ասում: Այդ դեպքում մնում է մի հարց: Ինչի՞ համար են դեմոնստրատիվ ընտրական գործընթացները, եթե երկրի քաղաքականությունը պիտի որոշվի ըստ անհրաժեշտության: Կողմնորոշվեք պարոնայք ՝ ժողովրդի կամքով, թե ըստ անհրաժեշտության: Եթե ժողովրդի կամքի վրա կասկածում եք, համարում եք այն ոչ բավարար ադեկվատ, ապա հանեք այդ կամարտահայտումը քաղաքական պրոցեսներից: Իսկ եթե ընդունում եք, ուրեմն ձեր լեքսիկոնից հանեք ըստ անհրաժեշտության բառակապակցությունը:
