Թուրքիայի իշխանությունները հայտնել են, որ պատրաստ են ազատել գրեթե մեկ տարի առաջ ձերբակալված ամերիկացի քահանա Էնդրյու Բրանսոնին, եթե ԱՄՆ-ն փոխարենն արտահանձնի քարոզիչ Ֆեթուլահ Գյուլենին, որին Անկարան մեղադրում է անցած տարի պետհեղաշրջում կազմակերպելու փորձի մեջ, հայտնում է «Ամերիկայի ձայնը»։

«Նրանք ասում են՝ տվեք մեզ քահանային։ Քարոզիչն էլ ձեզ մոտ է ։ Տվեք նրան մեզ ու մենք կփորձենք ձեզ վերադարձնել քահանային»,- ասել է Թուրքիայի նախագահ Էրդողանն իր հեռուստաուղերձում։

Բրանսոնը, որը Թուրքիայում է ապրել 23 տարի ու նրա կինը՝ Նորինը, կալանավորվել են 2016-ի հոկտեմբերին՝ իմիգրացիոն օրենսդրության խախտման մեղադրանքով, կնոջը հետագայում ազատ են արձակել, իսկ Բրանսոնին մեղադրել են Գյուլենի կոմնակիցներին աջակցելու մեջ։

Բրանսոն ամուսինները ղեկավարում էին քրիստոնեական եկեղեցի՝ Իզմիր քաղաքում։

Նորինն անցած ամիս հանդիպել է ԱՄՆ պետքարտուղար Ռեքս Թիլերսոնի հետ՝ Անկարա նրա կատարած այցելության ժամանակ։ Թիլերսոնը այն ժամանակ ասել էր, որ Բրանսոնը «կալանքի տակ է կեղծ մեղադրանքներով»։

Անցած տարվա օգոստոսին հրապարակվել է դեկրետ, որն Էրդողանին թույլ է տալիս արտահանձնել օտարերկրացիներին՝ Թուրքիայի քաղաքացիների դիմաց, որոնք բանտարկված են արտասահմանում, «այնպիսի իրավիճակներում, երբ դա բխում է ազգային անվտանգության կամ երկրի շահերից»։ Թուրքիան բազմիցս ԱՄՆ-ին կոչ է արել արտահանձնել Փենսիլվանիայում բնակվող Գյուլենին՝ նրան մեղադրելով անցած տարի պետհեղաշրջման փորձ կազմակերպելու մեջ։
