«Հավատացեք, որ քաղաքական դաշտում համաձայնության գալը, հաշտության գալը շատ կարեւոր է, եւ ընդհանրապես կյանքում փոխզիջումների միջոցով համաձայնության գալը շատ կարեւոր հանգամանք է: Խոսքս չի վերաբերում հարմարվողականությանը, այլ դիմացինի շահը հասկանալուն, եւ վստահ եմ, որ ձեզնից շատ-շատերը հիշում են հայտնի մարդու այն ասացվածքը, որ ամենաքաղցր հաղթանակը այն հաղթանակն է, որը ձեռք է բերվել քիչ կորուստներով, քիչ ջանքերով: Հավատացեք, որ դա այսպես է: Ես կցանկանայի, որ երբ արդեն այլ հարցերում անմիջականորեն սկսեք մեծավարի զբաղվել, միշտ լինեք համաձայնության գալու կողմնակիցը: «Ընդդեմ», «հակա» կարգախոսներով որեւէ հաջողության անհնար է հասնել», այցելելով Բազե ճամբարի մասնակիցներին՝ նրանց իր հավատամքն ու փորձն է փոխանցել Սերժ Սարգսյանը:

Մեկ այլ առիթով էլ նա ասել էր, որ պետք է ենթարկվես, որ հետո քեզ էլ ենթարկվեն:

Արդեն երկու տասնամյակ Սերժ Սարգսյանը Հայաստանի բարձրագույն իշխանության մեջ է հենց այս հատկանիշների շնորհիվ, որոնք դրեւորվում են ներքին ու արտաքին քաղաքականության մեջ: Ռուսաստանի, Արեւմուտքի հետ հարաբերություններում, Ղարաբաղյան խնդրում, ներիշխանական խմբավորումների, ընդդիմության, հանրային տարբեր շերտերի հետ հակասություններում: Այդպիսով, նա իր համար դանդաղ ու հետեւողական ճանապարհ է հարթել քաղաքականության մեջ, երբեմն դուրս պրծնելով այնպիսի իրավիճակներից, որոնք թվում էին անելանելի:

 

Նրա այս «ճանապարհային քարտեզը» փաստացի գործել է անվրեպ, բայց խնդիրն այստեղ բնականաբար միայն նրա հավատամքը չէ, այլ շրջապատի, մրցակիցների, հակառակորդների հատկանիշները, որոնց վրա էլ կենսունակ է դարձել Սերժ Սարգսյանի այդ քարտեզը: Դրան այդպես էլ ոչ ոք չկարողացավ հակադրել որեւէ այլ տեխնոլոգիա, գաղափար, օրակարգ: Իսկ այն, ինչը հակադրվում էր, խոշոր հաշվով խրախուսվում էր Սերժ Սարգսյանի կողմից՝ հայհոյանք, նվնվոց, իշխանափոխության խրոխտ կոչեր եւ այլն, քանի որ դա նպաստում էր նրա հավատամքի կենսունակությանը:

Նրա իշխանությունը չուներ հանրային լեգիտիմություն, եւ այդ հարցը լուծվում էր հենց նման հատկանիշներով «ընդդիմության» շնորհիվ:

Պարզունակ քաղաքական համակարգերում նման բաներն անհասու են այդ դաշտի մասնակիցների համար: Սերժ Սարգսյանը «քաղցր հաղթանակներ» է տարել նվազագույն կորուստներով, քանի որ ընդդիմություն է համարվել ամենալավ հայհոյողը: Սերժ Սարգսյանի իշխանությունը պահպանվել է հատկապես քաղաքական դաշտի ու հանրության զգալի շերտերի հենց այս պարզունակ պատկերացումների վրա:

Սերժ Սարգսյանը մտնում է իշխանության հերթական փուլը, վերադասավորումների, համաձայնությունների, դիմացինի շահերը հասկանալու, փոխզիջումների շնորհիվ, հընթացս սրելով հանրային-քաղաքական պարզունակ պատկերացումները հաղթանակի ու պարտության, հերոսների ու դավաճանների մասին: Նրան այդպիսով հաջողվեց հաղթահարել եւս մեկ բարդ ու անելանելի թվացող փուլ, այդ «բարձունքից» էլ տալով իր իշխանության բանաձեւը՝ «ընդդեմ», «հակա» կարգախոսներով որեւէ հաջողության անհնար է հասնել»:
