Հայաստանի Հանրապետության մշտական բնակչության թվաքանակը 2017 թվականի հուլիսի 1-ի դրությամբ կազմում է 2 միլիոն 979 հազար 900 մարդ: Ինչպես տեղեկացնում է «Արմենպրես»-ը, վկայակոչելով Ազգային վիճակագրական ծառայության տվյալները, հանրապետության քաղաքներում ապրում է 1 միլիոն 898 հազար մարդ, իսկ գյուղերում՝ 1 միլիոն 81 հազար 900 մարդ:

Երևանի բնակչությանը թիվը կազմում է 1 միլիոն 75 հազար 100 մարդ: Մարզերից ամենից շատը բնակվում են Արմավիրի մարզում՝ 265 հազար մարդ,  Արարատի մարզում` 258 հազար մարդ, Կոտայքի մարզում `  252 հազար 600 մարդ, Շիրակի մարզում՝ 238 հազար 300 մարդ, Գեղարքունիքի մարզում` 230 հազար մարդ, Լոռու մարզում` 220 հազար մարդ:  Հանրապետության  ամենաքիչ  բնակչություն ունեցող մարզերից են Վայոց Ձորը` 50 հազար  մարդ,  Տավուշը` 124 հազար 100 մարդ, Արագածոտնը`128 հազար 100 մարդ  և Սյունիքը` 138 500  մարդ:

Երևանի վարչական շրջաններից ամենից շատ բնակվում են Շենգավիթում` 139 հազար 600 մարդ, Մալաթիա-Սեբաստիայում` 136 հազար 900 մարդ, Նոր Նորքում` 131 հազար 200 մարդ, Էրեբունիում` 127 հազար 300 մարդ, Կենտրոնում` 125 հազար 300 մարդ, Արաբկիրում` 115 հազար մարդ և Աջափնյակում՝ 109 հազար 100 մարդ: Իսկ ամենից քիչը բնակվում են Նուբարաշենում՝ 9 հազար 800 մարդ, Նորք-Մարաշում՝ 11 հազար 800 մարդ, Դավթաշենում՝ 42 հազար 400 մարդ, Ավանում՝ 52 հազար 900 մարդ, Քանաքեռ-Զեյթունում՝ 73 հազար 800 մարդ:   

Բնակչության թվաքանակի վերաբերյալ տեղեկատվության ստացման սկզբնաղբյուրը  բնակչության մարդահամարն է:

Բնակչության թվաքանակի ընթացիկ գնահատականը տրվում է բնակչության վերջին մարդահամարի արդյունքների հիման վրա (2011թ. հոկտեմբերի 12-21-ն անցկացված), որոնց ամեն տարի ավելացվում են տվյալ տարածքի ծնվածների և եկողների (հաշվառվածների) թվաքանակը, հանվում  է մահացածների և տվյալ տարածքից մեկնածների (հաշվառումից հանվածների)  թվաքանակը:

Մարդահամարի արդյունքներով հաշվառվում է բնակչության երկու կատեգորիա` մշտական բնակչություն և առկա բնակչություն:

Մշտական բնակչության թվաքանակում հաշվառվում են  այն  անձինք, ովքեր մշտապես բնակվում են տվյալ տարածքում, ներառյալ մարդահամարի պահին ժամանակավոր բացակայողները:

Ժամանակավոր բացակայողների  թվաքանակում հաշվառվում են  այն անձինք, ովքեր մարդահամարի պահին իրենց հիմնական (մշտական) բնակության վայրից բացակայում են մինչև մեկ տարի ժամկետով:

Առկա բնակչության թվաքանակում հաշվառվում են  այն  անձինք, ովքեր մարդահամարի պահին գտնվել են տվյալ տարածքում՝ ներառյալ ժամանակավոր բնակվողները:

Ժամանակավոր բնակվողների թվաքանակում հաշվառվում են  այն անձինք, ովքեր մարդահամարի պահին չբնակվելով մշտապես` գտնվում են տվյալ տարածքում մինչև մեկ տարի ժամկետով:
