Հայաստանի և Իրանի համար ռազմավարական կարևոր նշանակություն ունեն երկկողմ տրանսպորտային փոխադրումների ակտիվացումը: Այս առումով հատկապես կարևոր են Հյուսիս-հարավ ճանապարհային միջանցքի ներդրումային և Հայաստան-Իրան երկաթգծի կառուցման նախագծերը: ՀՀ վարչապետ Հովիկ Աբրահամյանի և ԻԻՀ առաջին փոխնախագահ Էսհաղ Ջահանգիրիի մասնակցությամբ Երևանում ընթացող հայ-Õ �րանական գործարար համաժողովի ժամանակ նման դիրքորոշում հայտնեց ՀՀ վարչապետ Հովիկ Աբրահամյանը: Անդրադառնալով էներգետիկայի ոլորտում երկկողմ համագործակցությանը՝ վարչապետը համոզմունք հայտնեց, որ այդ բնագավառում իրականացվող ծրագրերը նոր թափ կհաղորդեն տարածաշրջանային զարգացմանը: «Վստահ եմ, որ էներգետիկայի բնագավառում մեր համատեղ ծրագրերը՝ մասնավորապես Հայաստան-Իրան բարձրավոլտ էլեկտրահաղորդման երրորդ գծի և Մեղրի ՀԷԿ-ի կառուցման ծրագրերը, նոր որակ կհաղորդեն տարածաշրջանային էներգահամակարգերի ներինտեգրման գործընթացին»,- հավելեց Աբրահամյանը:

Հայաստանի և Իրանի միջև դիվանագիտական հարաբերություններ հաստատվել են 1992թ. փետրվարի 9-ին: Երկու երկրների իրավապայմանագրային դաշտը կազմում են շուրջ յոթ տասնյակ փաստաթղթեր` համաձայնագրեր, արձանագրություններ, հուշագրեր, համատեղ հայտարարություններ և այլն: 2012 թվականի սեպտեմբերի 13-ին տեղի է ունեցել «Հյուսիս-Հարավ ճանապարհային միջանցք» ծրագրի շինարարության պաշտոնական մեկնարկը: Ճանապարհային միջանցքի երկարությունը պետք է կազմի 556 կմ, դրա կառուցման ժամկետը 2009թ. մինչև 2017 թվականն է: Այն պետք է ապահովի Հայաստանի, Վրաստանի տարածքներով ել ք դեպի Սև ծով և այնուհետև դեպի եվրոպական երկրներ:
