«Ավրորա» մրցանակը ստացավ Թոմ Քաթինան

Սուդանի 750 հազար բնակիչ ունեցող Նուբա լեռներում մշտական ներկայություն ունեցող միակ վիրաբույժը՝ Թոմ Քաթինան այսօր՝ մայիսի 28-ին, հռչակվել է «Ավրորա» մրցանակաբաշխության դափնեկիր։
«Ավրորա» մրցանակի 2017 թվականի գլխավոր մրցանակակիրը բժիշկ Թոմ Քաթինան է։ Հաղթողի անունը հայտարարել եւ մրցանակը հանձնել է շանսոնյե Շալ Ազնավուրը։
Որպես «Ավրորայի» դափնեկրի Թոմ Քաթինային շնորհվելու է 100,000 ԱՄՆ դոլարի պարգեւ, իսկ դափնեկիրն ինքը շարունակելու է նվիրատվության շղթան՝ ուղղորդելով 1,000,000 ԱՄՆ դոլարի դրամաշնորհն այն կազմակերպություններին, որոնք ոգեշնչել են իրեն՝ գործելու։
Նշենք, որ Թոմ Քաթինան արդեն երկար տարիներ նա աշխատում է Սուդանի Նուբայի լեռներում գտնվող հիվանդանոցում: Քաթինան այնտեղ միակ բժիշկն է եւ պատասխանատու է շրջանի 750 հազար բնակիչների բուժսպասարկման համար: Հիվանդանոցը բավական հեռու է մյուս բնակավայրերից, եւ հիվանդները հաճախ ոտքով են այնտեղ հասնում:
Հիվանդանոցն այսօր 450 մահճակալ ունի, բայց հաճախ դրանք չեն բավականացնում՝ բոլոր հիվանդներին ու վիրավորներին ընդունելու համար. լրացուցիչ մահճակալները ստիպված են լինում պատշգամբում դնել: Մեծահասակների համար նախատեսված մեկ մահճակալին, որպես կանոն, միանգամից մի քանի երեխա է պառկում:
Հիվանդանոցում նաեւ ժամանակակից սարքավորումների պակաս կա: Ցավազրկման համար նրանք շատ հին սարքավորում են օգտագործում, իսկ մինչեւ վերջերս անդամահատումը սովորական սղոցով էին անում: Անցյալ ամսվա վերջին, Քաթինայի խոսքով, երկարամյա սպասումից հետո իրենց հիվանդանոցը վերջապես ռենտգենի ապարատ է ստացել:
Հյուրերը մեծարանքի են արժանացրել նաեւ մրցանակի մյուս երեք հավակնորդներին՝ Սոմալիից Ֆարթուն Ադանին և նրա դստերը՝ Իլվադ Էլմանին, Աֆղանստանում կանանց իրավունքների պաշտպանությամբ զբաղվող Ջամիլա Աֆղանին, Սիրիայի Մադայա քաղաքում դաշտային հիվանդանոցի բժիշկ Մուհամադ Դարվիշին եւ Դենիս Մուկվեգեն, ով բժշկական, հոգեբանական և իրավական աջակցություն է տրամադրում Կոնգոյում սեռական բռնությունների ենթարկված ավելի քան 50,000 կանանց:
Արարողության ընթացքում ելույթներ են ունեցել 100 LIVES եւ Aurora Prize նախաձեռնության համահիմնադիրներ Վարդան Գրեգորյանը, Նուբար Աֆեյանը եւ Ռուբեն Վարդանյանը:
Արարողությանը ներկա են եղել ՀՀ նախագահ Սերժ Սարգսյանը եւ Ամենայն Հայոց Կաթողիկոս Գարեգին Բ-ն:
Նշենք, որ Aurora Prize մրցանակաբաշխությունը ստեղծվել է, որպեսզի Ցեղասպանությունը վերապրած բոլոր հայերի անունից շնորհակալություն հայտնի փրկիչներին: Հարյուր տարի առաջ նրանց դրսեւորած քաջության հիշատակին մրցանակով պարգեւատրվելու են ժամանակակից հերոսները, որոնք վտանգում են իրենց կյանքը հանուն ուրիշների փրկության:
«Ավրորա» մրցանակը շնորհելով՝ 100 LIVES նախաձեռնությունը ճանաչման է արժանացնում մերօրյա հերոսներին, որոնք անձնվիրաբար օգնում են մարդկանց: Այն հիմնել են հայ գործարարներ Ռուբեն Վարդանյանը, Նուբար Աֆեյանն ու Կարնեգի կորպորացիայի նախագահ Վարդան Գրեգորյանը:
