Սենատի հետախուզության հարցերով հանձնաժողովը Սպիտակ տնից պահանջել է Ռուսաստանի արտգործնախարար Սերգեյ Լավրովի հետ ԱՄՆ նախագահ Դոնալդ Թրամփի զրույցի մանրամասները, հայտնել է ABC –ն, վկայակոչելով հանձնաժողովի նախագահ Ռիչարդ Բուրի պաշտոնական ներկայացուցիչ Ռեբեկա Ուոթքինսին։
Ուոթքինսը տեղեկացրել էր, որ հանձնաժողովը մտադիր է պարզաբանել իրավիճակը The Washington Post պարբերականի այն հրապարակման կապակցությամբ, ըստ որի Թրամփը կարող էր Լավրովին ու Կիսլյակին հայտնել գաղտնի տեղեկություններ ԻՊ խմբավորման մասին։
Ավելի վաղ ԱՄՆ նախագահի՝ ազգային անվտանգության հարցերով խորհրդական Հերբերտ Մաքմասերը լրագրողներին հայտնել էր, որ Թրամփը Լավրովի հետ հանդիպման ժամանակ միայն այնպիսի տեղեկություններ է հայտնել, որոնք համապատասխանում էին բանակցությունների նպատակին։ Մասնավորապես Թրամփը Լավրովին պատմել է ահաբեկչական սպառնալիքի մասին՝ Սինայի վրա ահաբեկչության համատեքստում ու կոչ է արել համատեղ պայքարել ահաբեկչության դեմ։ «Նախագահը շեշտել է, որ մենք ընդհանուր շահեր ունենք, ու պետք է միասին աշխատենք այս կարեւոր ոլորտներում։ Դրանցից են վերազգային ահաբեկչական խմբավորումների, մանավանդ ԻՊ-ի դեմ պայքարը։ ԻՊ-ն արդեն խոցել է ռուսական օդանավ ու սպանել ավելի 200 մարդու 2015-ի հոկտեմբերին։ Այդ համատեքստում միանգամայն նպատակահարմար էր խոսել սպառնալիքի տեսակի մասին, որպես հիմք ընդհանուր գործողությոնների, համակարգման ու համագործակցության համար»,- ասել էր ՄԱքմասթերը։
Իսկ Թրամփն ինքը հայտնել էր, որ միանգամայն իրավասու էր Ռուսաստանին հայտնել տեղեկություններ։ Նա ասել էր,որ ուզում էր Ռուսաստանին հաղորդել տվյալներ ահաբեկչության ու ավիաթռիչքների անվտանգության մասին։
Ռուսաստանի նախագահի մամուլի քարտուղար Դմիտրի Պեսկովն էլ իր հերթին էր հայտնել, որ Սերգեյ Լավրովը Վլադիմիր Պուտինին է փոխանցել Դոնալդ Թրամփի հետ զրույցի բովանդակությունը։ Բայց Պեսկովը չի մանրամասնել այդ զրույցի բովանդակությունը ու հիմարություն է անվանել ամերիկյան լրատվամիջոցների հրապարակումները՝ հանդիպման ընթացքում ռուսական կողմին ինչ-որ գաղտնի տեղեկությունների փոխանցման հնարավորության մասին։
