Այս ոչ այնքան ուրախալի ճշմարտությունը հայտնի է ցանկացած աղջկա: Past.am-ը փորձեց պարզել, թե գիտական տեսանկյունից ի՞նչ կապ կա կանանց ու աղջիկների միջև ու թե` ինչու որքան աղքատ է երկիրը, որտեղ ապրում ու աշխատում է աղջիկը, այնքան նա ավելի շատ կախված է տղամարդուց:

Հարցումների արդյունքում պարզվել է, որ կանայք ավելի նախընտրում են, հանձին իրենց կողակցի, նրա մեջ տեսնել հարստություն, հավակնոտություն ու բարձր կարգավիճակ: Սովորաբար նման ցանկությունը բացատրում են նրանով, որ այն կարծես ներդրված է կանացի նյարդային համակարգի մեջ էվոլյուցիայի արդյունքում:

Սակայն բազմաթիվ գիտնականներ մատնանշում են կոնկրետ մշակութային պայմանները, որոնք չեն ապահովում կանանց իրենց պահանջմունքների ու անվտանգության բավարարությամբ զբաղվել: Այդ տեսակետը ապացուցող ապացույցներն անբավարար էին, մինչև անկախ հոգեբաններ Թիմ Կասերն ու Յադիկա Շարման չգտան այդ գենդերային տարբերության մշակութային բացատրությունը:

Պարզվել է, որ այնտեղ, որտեղ կանայք քիչ շանս ունեն կրթվելու, ավելի շատ ցանկություն էին հայտնել ունենալ բարձր կարգավիճակ ունեցող կողակցի, քան այն երկրներում, որտեղ երկու սեռերն այդ առումով հավասար են:

Այն երկրներում, որտեղ կանայք քիչ հնարավորություն ունեն ստանալ կրթություն կամ կարգավորել երեխայի ծննդյան հետ կապված հարցերը, որպես օրենք, վստահ չեն, որ կկարողանան իրենց պահել, հետևաբար ավելի քննադատաբար են վերաբերվում կողակցի ընտրությանը:
