Քրիստոնեադեմոկրատական միությունը՝ Գերմանիայի գործող կանցլեր Անգելա Մերկելի գլխավորությամբ, առաջատարն Է Հյուսիսային Հռենոս- Վեստֆալիա դաշնային երկրամասի տարածաշրջանային ընտրություններում:
 
Նորացված նախնական տվյալների համաձայն՝ ՔԴՄ-ն հավաքում Է ձայների 34,3 տոկոսը, երկրորդ տեղում Գերմանիայի սոցիալ-դեմոկրատական կուսակցությունն Է` ձայների 30,6 տոկոսով: Հաջորդ տեղերում են ազատ դեմոկրատները (12.2 տոկոս), «Կանաչները» (6 տոկոս), «Ձախերը» (5 տոկոս), ինչպես նաեւ «Այլընտրանք Գերմանիայի համար» եվրասկեպտիկների կուսակցությունը (7,7 տոկոս):
Ընտրական հանձնաժողովի տվյալներով՝ ընտրություններին մասնակցել Է ընտրողների 65,5 տոկոսը, ինչը գրեթե 6 տոկոսով ավելի Է, քան 2012 թվականին կայացած նախորդ ընտրություններում: 
 
Գերմանիայում ամենազանգվածային ընտրությունները (13,1 մլն ընտրողներ) Հյուսիսային Հռենոս-Վեստֆալիայում կայացել են Բունդեսթագի ընտրություններից չորս ամիս առաջ, եւ դրանք ցուցադրել են ընտրողների իրական վերաբերմունքը Գերմանիայի առաջատար այսպես կոչված «ժողովրդական կուսակցությունների» նկատմամբ: 
 
ԳՍԴԿ-ի նախագահ եւ Եվրախորհրդարանի նախկին ղեկավար Մարտին Շուլցը հայտարարել Է, որ ընտրություններում կրած պարտությունը ծանր օր Է կուսակցության համար, բայց պայքարը կշարունակվի Բունդեսթագի ընտրություններում:
«Ծանր օր Է ԳՍԴԿ-ի համար, ծանր օր Է անձամբ ինձ համար. ես ծնունդով դաշնային այն երկրամասից եմ, որտեղ մենք պարտություն կրեցինք»,- ասել Է նա՝ ելույթ ունենալով Բեռլինում կուսակցության կենտրոնակայանում, հաղորդել Է ՌԻԱ Նովոստին:
