Որոշ մարդկանց շրջանում բարոյականություն և էթիկա տերմինները տհաճ զուգորդումներ են առաջացնում՝ հիշեցնելով երկարաշունչ խրատների, փիլիսոփայական դասերի, նույնիսկ ամբողջատիրական վարչակարգերում լայն տարածում ստացած կարգ ու կանոն հասկացության մասին: Ժամանակակից աշխարհում, ուր դաժան մրցակցության պայմաններում լրատվամիջոցներն ավելի են առևտրականացվում, այդ հասկացությունները հնացած են թվում:
Որակի վերահսկում հասկացությունը անցյալում քիչ է գործածվել լրատվության առնչությամբ: Դրա առավելությունը պայմանավորված է ընդգրկման ծավալով. հասկացությունն իր մեջ է ներառում անձի բարոյական չափանիշներն ու արժեքները, լրատվական էթիկան և ղեկավարման օղակների ցանկացած նախաձեռնություն, որն ուղղված է հանրությանն առավել բարձրորակ ծառայություններ մատուցելուն: Հասկացությունը գրավիչ է հիմնականում իր չեզոքությամբ. այն ի վիճակի է բավարարելու հանրային հաղորդակցության ամենաջերմեռանդ ջատագովների պահանջները: Լրատվության սպառողների համար «որակի վերահսկման» նշանակությունը պարզ է՝ լրատվական բարձրորակ ծառայության ապահովում: Լրագրողների համար այն նշանակում է՝ բարելավված արտադրանք, բարձր հուսալիություն և հեղինակություն: Աշխարհի ԶԼՄ սեփականատերերին այս հասկացությունը հիշեցնում է ճապոնացիների տնտեսական հաջողությունները, ուստի ընկալվում է իբրև ավելի մեծ եկամուտների գրավական:
