ԱՄՆ նախագահ Դոնալդ Թրամփը Ֆիլիպինների նախագահ Ռոդրիգո Դուտերտեին հրավիրել է Վաշինգտոն՝ քննարկելու երկկողմանի հարաբերությունները. գրում է Deutsche Welle-ն: Այդ առաջարկով նա հանդես է եկել կիրակի՝ ապրիլի 30-ին Ֆիլիպինների նախագահի հետ հեռախոսային բանակցությունների ընթացքում: Դուտերտեի ներկայացուցիչը հաստատել է հրավերը, սակայն չի հստակեցրել, թե երբ կարող է կայանալ այցը:


Սպիտակ տունը մամուլի հաղորդագրությունում հստակեցրել է, որ հեռախոսային բանակացություններն անցել են «բարեկամական» մթնոլորտում և երկու երկրների առաջնորդները քննարկել են տարածաշրջանային անվտանգության հարցերը, այդ թվում Հյուսիսային Կորեայի կողմից սպառնալիքները, ինչպես նաև թմրամիջոցների դեմ պայքարը:


Դուտերտեն Ֆիլիպիններում իշխանության է եկել 2016 թվականի հունիսին, և ԱՄՆ նախորդ վարչակազմի հետ նրա հարաբերությունները չէին ստացվում թմրանյութերի դեմ նրա արշավի մեթոդների հասցեին Բարաք Օբամայի քննադատության պատճառով: Ի պատասխան քննադատությանը՝ Դուտերտեն «Օբամային» մաղթել է «այրվել դժոխքում» և հայհոյել է նրան:


Պաշտոնական տվյալներով՝ Ֆիլիպինների ոստիկանությունը դիլերների և թմրամոլների դեմ պայքարի ընթացքում սպանել է ավելի քան 2,7 հազար մարդ՝ պնդելով, որ գործել է ինքնապաշտպանության շրջանակներում: Ֆիլիպինացի փաստաբանն անցած շաբաթ Դուտերտեի դեմ հայց է ներկայացրել Միջազգային քրեական դատարան՝ մեղադրելով նրան զանգվածային սպանությունների մեջ: Նրա հայտարարությունում նշված է, որ իրականում, իր հաշվարկներով, թմրանյութերի դեմ արշավի զոհ է դարձել մոտ 8 հազար մարդ:
