Մեծ Բրիտանիայի վարչապետ Թերեզա Մեյը հորդորել Է պատգամավորներին՝ պաշտպանել վաղաժամկետ համընդհանուր խորհրդարանական ընտրությունների անցկացումը:
 
Նա հայտարարել Է Վեստմինսթերում՝ պատասխանելով պատգամավորների հարցերին: 
 
«Կարծում եմ, որ երկրի համար այս շատ կարեւոր պահին այստեղ՝ Վեստմինսթերում, պետք Է լինի միասնություն, այլ ոչ թե բաժանում: Ահա թե ինչու մեզ բոլորիս համար ճիշտ ու պատասխանատու կլինի քվեարկել համընդհանուր ընտրությունների անցկացման օգտին»,-ասել Է Միացյալ Թագավորության կառավարող Պահպանողական կուսակցության առաջնորդը:
 
Բրիտանացի պատգամավորներն սկսել են հունիսի 8-ին վաղաժամկետ խորհրդարանական ընտրությունների անցկացնելու Մեյի առաջարկի քննարկումը: Բանավեճերն ընթանում են Համայնքների պալատում եւ պետք Է ավարտվեն քվեարկությամբ: Որպեսզի որոշումն ուժի մեջ մտնի, անհրաժեշտ Է, որ այն պաշտպանի խորհրդարանականների երկու երրորդը: Ինչպես սպասվում Է, վարչապետ Մեյը կստանա անհրաժեշտ աջակցությունը, քանի որ հիմնական կուսակցությունները հանդես են եկել վաղաժամկետ ընտրությունների անցկացման օգտին:
 
Ապրիլի 18-ին վարչապետ Մեյը հայտարարել Է հունիսի 8-ին երկրում վաղաժամկետ համընդհանուր ընտրություններ անցկացնելու որոշման մասին: Նա այդ քայլի պատճառ Է նշել Եվրամիության կազմից Մեծ Բրիտանիայի դուրս գալու շուրջ առաջիկա բանակցությունները, որտեղ, նրա խոսքով՝ կառավարությունը պետք Է առավելագույնս ուժեղ լինի: 
 
Հասարակական կարծիքի հարցումը, որը YouGov սոցիոլոգիական ընկերությունը կազմակերպել Է Times թերթի պատվերով, վկայում Է, որ Պահպանողական կուսակցությունը համոզիչ հաղթանակ կտանի վաղաժամկետ համընդհանուր ընտրություններում՝ լրացուցիչ բրիտանական խորհրդարանի Համայնքների պալատ անցկացնելով իր 52 պատգամավորների: Ինչպես ցույց Է տվել ուսումնասիրությունը, թորիները կարող են 382 տեղ գրավել օրենսդիր մարմնի 650-տեղանոց ստորին պալատում: Համեմատության համար նշենք, որ այժմ խորհրդարանում կառավարող կուսակցությունը ներկայացված Է 330 ժողովրդական ընտրյալներով:
 
Գլխավոր ընդդիմադիր ուժը՝ Լեյբորիստական կուսակցությունը, ընդհակառակը, խիստ կվատացնի իր դիրքերը՝ ընդամենը 179 պատգամավորական մանդատ երաշխավորելով ներկայիս 229-ից: 
 
«Լիբերալ դեմոկրատներ» կուսակցությունը, հարցման համաձայն, օրենսդիր մարմին կանցկացնի երեք նոր պատգամավորների՝ նրանց թիվը հասցնելով տասի, իսկ Շոտլանդիայի ազգային կուսակցությունը կնվաճի երկու լրացուցիչ մանդատ՝ 56 մանդատներով մնալով խորհրդարանում ներկայացված երրորդ ամենախոշոր խմբակցությունը: Եվս 23 պատգամավորներ կներկայացնեն այլ կուսակցություններ, հաղորդել Է ՏԱՍՍ-ը:
