Շոտլանդիայում քննադատել են վաղաժամկետ ընտրություններ անցկացնելու Մեյի որոշումը

Շոտլանդիայի ազգային կուսակցության (ՇԱԿ) առաջնորդ Նիկոլա Սթերջենն այն կարծիքին Է, որ վարչապետ Թերեզա Մեյը վաղաժամկետ խորհրդարանական ընտրություններ հայտարարելու ճանապարհով մտադիր Է ԵՄ-ի կազմից երկրի դուրս գալուն հասնել խիստ պայմաններով եւ կառավարության ղեկավարի դիրքորոշումը գնահատում Է որպես շատ մեծ սխալ: Այդ մասին քաղաքական գործիչը հայտարարել Է՝ մեկնաբանելով խորհրդարանի վաղաժամկետ ընտրությունների անցկացումը հունիսի 8-ին նշանակելու Մեյի որոշումը:  
«Թորիները հնարավորութուն են փնտրում՝ Մեծ Բրիտանիան աջ տեղաշարժել, նրան ստիպել անցնելու կոշտ Brexit-ի միջով եւ (բյուջետային վճարումների) նոր կրճատումներ կատարել»,- գրել Է քաղաքական գործիչը Twitter միկրոբլոգի իր Էջում:
 
Սթերջենը նաեւ հայտարարել Է, որ վաղաժամկետ կամաարտահայտումը  «ամրացնում Է Շոտլանդիային սեփական ապագան ինքնուրույն որոշելու իր իրավունքի հարցում»՝ Մեյի որոշումը համարելով «հսկայական քաղաքական սխալ»: 
Ավելի վաղ Շոտլանդիայի ազգայնականները հայտարարել են 2018 թվականի աշնան եւ 2019 թվականի գարնան միջեւ ընկած ժամանակաշրջանում տարածաշրջանի անկախության շուրջ երկրորդ հանրաքվեն անցկացնելու վճռականության մասին: Էդինբուրգը վճռականորեն հանդես Է գալիս ԵՄ-ի կազմից Մեծ Բրիտանիայի դուրս գալու դեմ եւ պնդում Է, որ այս դեպքում շոտլանդացիներն իրավունք ունեն քվեարկել իրենց անկախության օգտին: 
 
Ապրիլի 18-ին Մեյը հայտարարել Է վաղաժամկետ խորհրդարանական ընտրություններ անցկացնելու մտադրության մասին: Դրա համար պահանջվում Է, որ նա ստանա Համայնքների պալատի (բրիտանական խորհրդարանի ստորին պալատի) պատգամավորների երկու երրորդի աջակցությունը: Քվեարկությունը նշանակված Է ապրիլի 19-ին, հաղորդել Է ՏԱՍՍ-ը:
