 Ռուսաստանի արտաքին գործերի նախարար Սերգեյ Լավրովի հետ Մոսկվայում ԱՄՆ-ի պետքարտուղար Ռեքս Թիլերսոնի առաջին բանակցությունները, որոնք տեղի են ունեցել ապրիլի 12-ին, որոշակի արդյունքներ են տվել: Լավրովի խոսքով՝ կողմերն սկսել են ավելի լավ հասկանալ միմյանց, տեղեկացնում Է «Արմենպրես»-ը՝ հղում անելով ՏԱՍՍ-ին: 
ԱՄՆ-ի պետքարտուղարին ընդունել Է ՌԴ նախագահ Վլադիմիր Պուտինը, որը հավաստել Է ռուս-ամերիկյան հրաբերություններում առկա բազմաթիվ խնդիրները լուծելու Ռուսաստանի ձգտումը: 
Բանակցությունների արդյունքներից մեկը դարձել Է ՌԴ ԱԳ նախարարության եւ ԱՄՆ-ի Պետդեպատամենտի հատուկ ներկայացուցիչների նշանակումը, որոնց կհանձնարարվի վերլուծել երկու երկրների հարաբերություններում գոյություն ունեցող խնդիրները:
Կողմերը մեծ ուշադրություն են դարձրել Սիրիայի թեմային: Ռուսաստանը հաստատել Է Սիրիայի երկնքում միջադեպերի կանխման հուշագիրը վերականգնելու պատրաստակամությունը: Լավրովի խոստովանությամբ՝ Մոսկվայի եւ Վաշինգտոնի կարծիքները լրջորեն բաժանվել են Սիրիայում քիմիական զենքի կիրառման թեմայի շուրջ: 
«Վստահ եմ, որ այդ երկար ժամերը, որոնք այսօր մենք անցկացրեցինք Թիլերսոնի հետ երկուսով եւ ՌԴ նախագահի հետ, զուր չեն ծախսվել»,- ասել Է Լավրովը՝ մամուլի ասուլիսում ամփոփելով բանակցությունների արդյունքները: Նա նաեւ հույս Է հայտնել, որ «այդ շփումները շարոնակություն կունենան ինչպես անմիջականորեն իրենց միջեւ, այնպես Էլ մեր աշխատակիցների եւ ԱՄՆ-ի վարչակազմի ու ՌԴ կառավարության այլ գերատեսչությունների գծով»:
Թիլերսոնը պաշտպանել Է Ռուսաստանի իր պաշտոնակցին: «Մենք պետք Է ամեն ինչ անենք, որպեսզի վերականգնենք վստահությունը մեր երկրների միջեւ ու կասեցնենք դրանց գեգրադացումը»,- ասել Է նա: 
«Վստահության մակարդակը շատ ցածր մակարդակի վրա Է»,- խոստովանել Է նա: «Մեզ բոլորիս համար կարեւոր հարցերի լուծման համար մենք համաձայնեցինք ստեղծել աշխատանքային խումբ»,- նշել Է Թիլերսոնը:
Կրեմլում ԱՄՆ-ի պետքարտուղարի հետ կայացած հանդիպմանը Պուտինը հաստատել Է Սիրիայի երկնքում միջադեպերի կանխման հուշագիրը վերականգնելու պատրաստակամությունը, լրագրողներին հայտնել Է Լավրովը: 
Իր հերթին ամերիկյան դիվանագիտության ղեկավարը հայտարարել Է, որ ԱՄՆ-ի եւ Ռուսաստանի ղեկավարները պետք Է պահպանեն կապի գծերը ռազմական ու դիվանագիտական կապուղիներով:
«Մենք խոսեցինք Բաշար Ասադի ապագա դերի մասին, ակներեւ Է, որ Ասադի ռեժիմը մոտենում Է ավարտին»,- նշել Է նա, հավելելով, որ նրա հեռացումը պետք Է իրականացվի կազմակերպված ձեւով, «որպեսզի քաղաքական լուծում փնտրելիս բոլոր համայնքները ներկայացված լինեն բանակցությունների սեղանի շուրջ»:
Այդ կապակցությամբ Լավրովն ասել Է, որ ՌԴ-ն «շեշտը չի դնում որեւ Է անձի վրա՝ ոչ նախագահ Ասադի, ոչ Էլ մեկ ուրիշի»: «Դա պետք Է լինի ինկլյուզիվ միջսիրիական երկխոսություն»,- ընդգծել Է ՌԴ ԱԳ նախարարը:
