Լիտվայում ՀՀ դեսպան Տիգրան Մկրտչյանը ապրիլի 11-ին Կաունասի շրջան կատարած այցի ընթացքում Կաունասի կաթոլիկ եկեղեցու արքեպիսկոպոսարանում հանդիպում ունեցավ Կաունասի Արքեպիսկոպոս Լիոնգինաս Վիրբալասի հետ։ Այս մասին «Արմենպրես»-ին տեղեկացրին ՀՀ արտաքին գործերի նախարարության մամուլի, տեղեկատվության և հասարակայնության հետ կապի վարչությո ւնից:

Դեսպան Մկրտչյանը զրուցակցին ներկայացրեց իր գործունեության առաջնահերթությունները և ձեռնարկվելիք քայլերը։ Կողմերն անդրադարձ կատարեցին կաթոլիկ և առաքելական եկեղեցիների միջև համագործակցության հեռանկարներին, Մերձավոր Արևելքում քրիստոնյաների նկատմամբ աճող բռնաճնշումներին, կրոնական անհանդուրժողականությանը։ Դեսպանը ներկայացրեց սիրիահայ համայնքին վերաբերող մանրամասներ։
Համաձայնություն ձեռք բերվեց առաջիկայում կազմակերպել համատեղ մշակութային միջոցառումներ։

Նույն օրը ՀՀ դեսպան Տիգրան Մկրտչյանը հանդիպում ունեցավ Կաունասի քաղաքապետ Վիսվալդաս Մատիյոսայտիսի հետ, որի ընթացքում քննարկվեցին Հայաստանի և Լիտվայի միջև ապակենտրոնացված համագործակցության հեռանկարները, փորձի փոխանակման հնարավորությունը՝ տնտեսության զարգացման, զբոսաշրջության աճի ապահովման, առևտրային և մշակութային կապերի հաստատման, ծառայությունների մատուցման և այլ բնագավառներում։
Հանդիպմանը նախնական պայմանավորվածություն ձեռք բերվեց Հայաստանի շրջաններից որևէ մեկի և Կաունասի միջև համագործակցության հաստատման շուրջ։

Զրուցակիցները կարևորեցին գործարար ոլորտի ներկայացուցիչների ներգրավվածությունը քաղաքապետերի և մարզպետերի հնարավոր փոխայցելությունների շրջանակներում։

Կաունասը Լիտվայի 2-րդ ամենամեծ քաղաքն է, բնակչությունը՝ շուրջ 306.000։ Կաունասի շրջանը համարվում է Լիտվայի կրթական, արդյունաբերական և տրանսպորտային կենտրոնը։
