Վերջերս Սիդնեյ քաղաքի համալսարանի մասնագետները սկսել են գործածել ալկոհոլային կախվածության բուժման իրենց ստեղծած մեթոդի կլինիկական փորձարկումները: Ըստ այդմ, պարբերաբար հիվանդների օրգանիզմ է ներմուծվում օկսիտոցին՝ բնական հորմոն, որը գլխուղեղում գործում է որպես նեյրոհաղորդիչ և մեծ նշանակություն ունի մարդու սոցիալական վարքի համար:
Փորձ է կատարվել լաբորատոր առնետների վրա, որոնց մոտ հետազոտողները ալկոհոլից և ամֆետամիններից կախվածություն են առաջացրել: Առնետների նկատմամբ կատարված նախնական փորձերի ընթացքում այդ թմրանյութերի նկատմամբ հակվածությունը կտրուկ նվազել է անմիջապես օկսիտոցինի ներարկումից հետո:
Գիտնականները բացահայտել են, որ թմրանյութերից և ալկոհոլային կախվածության ժամանակ մարդու ուղեղն օկսիտոցինի պակաս է ունենում: Բայց ճիշտ բուժման դեպքում կարելի է ընդմիշտ ազատվել վնասակար սովորությունից: Օկսիտոցինով բուժումը կարող է օգնել նաև վախերի և չափազանց վստահության, աուտիզմի դեմ պայքարում:
