Հայոց ցեղասպանության փաստը պետք է մեկընդմիշտ ճանաչվի, «Ամերիկայի Ձայն»-ին ասել է ԱՄՆ-ի կոնգրեսական Դեյվ Թրոթը, ով Կոնգրեսի ստորին՝ Ներկայացուցիչների պալատ Հայոց ցեղասպանության ճանաչման ու դատապարտման և ապագայի ցեղասպանությունների կանխարգելման օրենքի նոր նախագիծ է ներկայացրել։
«Կարծում եմ՝ Միացյալ Նահանգների համար շատ կարևոր է մեկ ընդ միշտ վերջ դնել այս բանավեճին՝ ճանաչելով եղածը: Դա կարևոր է նաև հայ ժողովրդի համար»,– ասել է նա:
Կոնգրեսականի խոսքով՝ նման օրինագծեր նախկինում նույնպես ներկայացվել են Կոնգրես, սակայն, վերջին տարիներին անհրաժեշտ մեծամասնություն չեն հավաքել։
«Այդ նախագծերը երբեք նախագահի աշխատասեղանին ստորագրման համար չեն հասել: Նախագահ Օբաման, սենատոր եղած շրջանում, ճանաչել է Հայոց ցեղասպանությունը, սակայն, նախագահ դառնալուց հետո ինչ-որ պատճառով փոխել էր դիրքորոշումը»,– ասել է նա:
Խոսելով Հայոց ցեղասպանության ճանաչման մասին հայ-ամերիկյան բարեկամության խմբի համանախագահ Ֆրենք Փալոնը նշել է, որ այսօր Մեծ եղեռնը հայտնի և ճանաչված է աշխարհում ավելի քան երբևէ։
«Մենք վճռական ենք տրամադրված Կոնգրեսում Հայոց ցեղասպանության ճանաչմանը հասնելու գործում: Չգիտեմ, թե երբ դա տեղի կունենա, սակայն, կասկած չունեմ, որ անխուսափելի է: Ես էլ իմ կողմից կշարունակեմ խթանել այդ գործընթացը»,– ասել է նա:
