Շոգեգազային ցիկլով էլեկտրակայանի կառուցման էներգետիկ առավելությունները Հայաստանի էներգետիկ պահանջների բավարարման նպատակով առաջ են քաշվում նոր ծրագրեր: Այս հարցում հաշվի է առնվում, որ վերջին շրջանում գերակա է դառնում սեփական էներգետիկ ռեսուրսներով այլընտրանքային էներգետիկայի զարգացումը:

Այսպես՝ վերջին մեկ տասնամյակում Հայաստանում միայն փոքր ՀԷԿ-երի բուռն զարգացումը բերել է նրան, որ ներկայումս նրանց կողմից արտադրվող էներգետիկ հզորությունները ՀՀ-ում կազմում են 330 մեգավատտ: Քննարկվում է առաջիկա տարիներին մինչև 150 մեգավատտ հողմային և մինչև 100 մեգավատ արևային կայաններ կառուցելու անհրաժեշտությունը:

Նշենք, որ այլընտրանքային էներգետիկայի զարգացումն ակնհայտորեն կբերի ռեակտիվ էներգիայի պակասուրդի, ինչն այսօր գործող ավանդական կայանները՝ Ատոմակայանը և մյուս ջերմային կայանները, չեն կարող ծածկել: Նշված պակասուրդը ծածկելու նպատակով Երևան քաղաքի տարածքում նախատեսվում է կառուցել 250 ՄՎ գազային վառելիքով կոմբինացված ցիկլով էլեկտրակայան, որի կառուցման նախագծի շրջանակներում նախատեսվում է կատարել 250 մլն դոլարի ներդրում, շինարարությունը կտևի 26 ամիս, կստեղծվի 900 աշխատատեղ, իսկ շահագործման ամբողջ ընթացքում ևս 200 աշխատատեղ՝ բարձր աշխատավարձով:

Նոր կայանը կլուծի մեկ այլ կարևոր խնդիր: 2019թ.-ին ավարտվելու է Հայաստան-Իրան երրորդ բարձրավոլտ գծի կառուցումը և գրեթե նույն ժամանակահատվածում պլանավորվում է Հայաստան-Վրաստան բարձրավոլտ գծի կառուցումը, ինչը կբերի Հայաստանից էլեկտրաէներգիայի արտահանման հզորությունների բազմապատկմանը, և ՀՀ արտահանման հնարավորությունը կհասնի 1550 մեգավատտի, բայց պետք է նկատի ունենալ, որ գործող արտադրական հզորությունները բավարար չեն արտահանումն այս ծավալներով բավարարելու համար: Այս համատեքստում էլեկտրակայանի գործարկումը կարևոր նշանակություն է ստանում:
