Բրիտանացի հռչակավոր ֆիզիկոս Սթիվեն Հոքինգը հայտարարել Է, որ պատրաստվում Է տիեզերք ուղեւորվել Virgin Galactic ընկերության տիեզերանավով: Ինչպես գրել Է Daily Mail թերթի Էլեկտրոնային տարբերակը, այս մասին նա ասել Է Good Morning Britain ծրագրում կայացած հարցազրույցում, որը ITV հեռուստաալիքով հեռարձակվել Է մարտի 20-ին բրիտանական ժամանակով ժամը 06:00-ին (Երեւանի ժամանակով 10:00-ին), տեղեկացնում Է «Արմենպրես»-ը: 
Այն հարցին, թե նրա համար ինչ Է երջանկությունը, գիտնականը պատասխանել Է, որ իրեն ամենամեծ ուրախությունը պարգեւել են երեք երեխաները: «Եվ ես կարող եմ ձեզ ասել, թե ինչը կարող Է ինձ երջանիկ դարձնել, ճանապարհորդությունը տիեզերք: Ես կարծում Էի, թե ոչ ոք ինձ այնտեղ չի վերցնի, բայց Ռիչարդ Բրենսոնը (Virgin Group-ի սեփականատերը, ընկերություն, որի մեջ Է մտնում Virgin Galactic-ը) ինձ տեղ առաջարկեց Virgin Galactic-ում, եւ ես անմիջապես պատասխանեցի «այո»,- պատմել Է նա:       
Virgin Galactic-ի պատվերով Scaled Composites LLC ընկերության կողմից մշակված եւ The Spaceship Company ֆիրմայի կողմից կառուցված օդանավը նախատեսված Է մինչեւ շուրջ 100 կիլոմետր բարձրություն՝ տիեզերքի հետ Երկրի մթնոլորտի սահմանի մոտ, տուրիստական թռիչքների անցկացման համար, բայց առանց դրա ուղեծիր դուրս գալու: Վեց ուղեւորներից յուրաքանչյուրի համար ճանապարհորդության արժեքը կկազմի շուրջ 200 հազար դոլար: Տոմսերն արդեն ամրագրել Է մոտ 800 մարդ, այդ թվում, բացի Հոքինգից, դերասանուհի Անջելինա Ջոլին եւ երգչուհի Լեդի Գագան:    
Սթիվեն Հոքինգը հայտնի Է տիեզերաբանությանը վերաբերող իր աշխատանքներով եւ գիտության ժողովրդականացմամբ: Նա առաջինն Է հրապարակել հոդված սեւ անցքերի գոլորշիանալու հնարավորության մասին: 1963 թվականին Օքսֆորդի համալսարանում ուսանելիս նրա մոտ հայտնաբերել են կենտրոնական նյարդային համակարգի հազվագյուտ հիվանդություն՝ կողային ամիոտրոֆիկ սկլերոզ: 
Տրախեոտոմայից հետո գրեթե 20 տարի անց գիտնականը կորցրել Է խոսելու ունակությունը եւ այդ ժամանակվանից ի վեր օգտվում Է խոսքի սինթեզատորից: 1997 թվականից նա տեղաշարժվում Է համակարգչով հանդերձված հաշմանդամի սայլակով: Ծանր հիվանդությունը Հոքինգին չի խանգարել դառնալու արդի ամենահայտնի տեսաբան-ֆիզիկոսներից մեկը եւ կարգավորելու անձնական կյանքը: Հունվարի 8-ին լրացել Է նրա 75 տարին:
