ՀՀ Նախագահ Սերժ Սարգսյանը ՄԱԿ-ի ամբիոնից շնորհակալություն է հայտնել Հայոց ցեղասպանությունը ճանաչած պետություններին ու Հռոմի Ֆրանցիսկոս պապին` Վատիկանում մատուցված պատմական պատարագի համար: Ելույթ ունենալով Նյու Յորքում ՄԱԿ-ի Գլխավոր վեհաժողովի 70-րդ նստաշրջանի ընթացքում` Նախագահ Սարգսյանն ընդգծել է, որ Ցեղասպանությունների կանխարգելումը միջազգային օրակարգում պահելու Հայաստանի հաստատակամության մասին են վկայում Մարդու իրավունքների խորհրդում պարբերաբար առաջադրվող բանաձևերը, որոնցից վերջինն ընդունվել է այս տարի: Դրա հիման վրա օրեր առաջ ՄԱԿ-ի գլխավոր վեհաժողովը դեկտեմբերի 9-ը հռչակել է «Ցեղասպանության հանցագործության զոհերի հիշատակի ու արժանապատվության և այդ հանցագործության կանխարգելման միջազգային օր»: «Անցյալ տարի՝ Հայոց ցեղասպանության 100-րդ տարելիցի նախաշեմին, ես այս ամբիոնից անուն առ անուն շնորհակալություն հայտնեցի Հայոց ցեղասպանությունը ճանաչած երկրներին՝ կոչ անելով ողջ միջազգային հանրությանը ճանաչման ու դատապարտման միջոցով ցեղասպանությունների կրկնության դեմ պայքարին նոր թափ հաղորդել:

Այսօր նույն այս ամբիոնից շնորհակալություն եմ հայտնում Հռոմի Պապ Ֆրանցիսկոսին և հիշատակում նրա կողմից մատուցված պատմական պատարագը, Եվրոպայի խորհրդարանին և մատնանշում նրա ընդունած բանաձևը, Գերմանիայի Նախագահին և վստահեցնում, որ նրա հայտնի ելույթն այսուհետ լինելու է մեր ժողովրդի պատմության էջերում, Ավստրիայի, Բոլիվիայի, Բրազիլիայի, Լյուքսեմբուրգի, Նիդերլանդների, Չիլիի օրենսդիր մարմիններին, բազմաթիվ երկրների նահանգային և քաղաքային խորհուրդներին, ինչպես նաև տասնյակ ու հարյուրավոր հասարակական-քաղաքական կառույցներին:

Շնորհակալություն եմ հայտնում Ռուսաստանի, Ֆրանսիայի, Կիպրոսի, Սերբիայի նախագահներին, ինչպես նաև բազմաթիվ երկրների պատվիրակություններին ապրիլի 24-ին Երևանում Ցեղասպանության զոհերի ոգեկոչման արարողությանը մասնակցելու համար»,- նշել է ՀՀ Նախագահը:
