ԱՄՆ նախագահի ազգային անվտանգության հարցերով նախկին խորհրդական Մայքլ Ֆլինն իր լոբբիստական գործունեության շրջանակում տեղեկատվություն է հավաքել ԱՄՆ-ում գտնվող ընդդիմադիր իսլամական քարոզիչ Ֆեթուլահ Գյուլենի մասին, ում Անկարան մեղադրում է 2016 թ. հուլիսին պետական հաղաշրջման փորձի կազմակերպման մեջ, հաղորդում է New York Times-ը:
Պարբերականը նշում է, որ նախագահի նախկին խորհրդականին այդ գործի համար վարձել են Թուրքիայի նախագահ Ռեջեբ Թայիփ Էրդողանի վարչակազմի հետ առնչություններ ունեցող ծագումով թուրք ամերիկացիները:
Ավելի վաղ հայտնի էր դարձել, որ Ֆլինը ԱՄՆ արդարադատության նախարարությունում գրանցվել է որպես Թուրքիայի շահերի լոբբիստ: Ընդ որում, տվյալ աշխատանքը նա կատարել է անցած տարվա նոյեմբերին, մինչեւ նախագահական ընտրությունները: Հողորդվում է , որ Ֆլինի ընկերությունը դրա համար մոտ 500 հազար դոլար է ստացել:
Ֆլինը հրաժարական էր տվել այն բանից հետո, երբ մամուլում ենթադրություն էր հայտվել այն մասին, թե նա ապատեղակատվություն է տրամադրել Փենսին եւ վարչակազմի մյուս ներկայացուցիչներին Ռուսաստանի դեսպան Սերգեյ Կիսիլյովի հետ իր շփումների մասին:
