Տարբերակվում է ալկոհոլի չարաշահման երեք փուլ: Առաջինը, ըստ Առողջապահության համաշխարհային կազմակերպության, կանոնավոր ալկոհոլային հարբեցումն է, որի հետևանքով մարդը կարող է վնաս հասցնել իր ֆիզիկական և հոգեկան առողջությանը կամ հասարակությանը: Այսպիսի դեպքերում անհատը ավելի շատ ոգելից խմիչք է ընդունում, քան դա թույլատրվում է առողջապահական մարմինների կամ օրենքի կողմից:
Երկրորդ փուլում հարբեցումն արդեն իսկ վնասած է լինում մարդու ֆիզիկական կամ հոգեկան առողջությունը, սակայն դեռ կախվածության առաջ բերած չի լինում:
Երրորդ փուլը ալկոհոլամոլությունն է` ոգելից խմիչքի հանդեպ անզուսպ հակումը: Անհատը խմիչքի սուր պահանջ է զգում, շարունակում է խմել` չնայած դրա հետևանքով առաջացած խնդիրների, և վատ է զգում իրեն ալկոհոլի բացակայության դեպքում:
Ամկախ այն բանից, թե ինչ տարիքի, սեռի կամ ազգության եք պատկանում` դուք կարող խուսափել այն խնդիրներից, որ առաջ են գալիս կանոնավոր հարբելու հետևանքով: Իսկ ահա չափավոր օգտագործման դեպքում, ալկոհոլը գրեթե ոչ մի ազդեցություն չի թողնի ձեր օրգանիզմի վրա:
