«Հայկական ժամանակ» թերթը գրում է. «Կարեն Կարապետյանը Սերժ Սարգսյանի հետ քաղաքական պայքարի մեջ մտնելու նշաններ է ցույց տալիս: Նրա և Սարգսյանի անհարթ հարաբերությունները վաղուց գաղտնիք չեն: Մինչև հիմա միայն Սարգսյանն էր վարչապետին հարվածներ հասցնում, իսկ Կարապետյանը փորձում էր հասկանալ` ինչ է կատարվում: Կարծես թե, արդեն հասկացել է և սկսել է գործել:
Տպավորություն կա, որ հանրապետության երկու ամենաբարձր պաշտոնյաներն առհասարակ չեն խոսում իրար հետ: Պաշտոնական հանդիպումներ նրանց միջև չեն լինում, աշխատանքային` նույնպես, միաժամանակ նույն վայրում գտնվելու դեպքում էլ, գոնե տեսախցիկների առաջ նրանք երբեք չեն շփվում:
Փետրվարի 22-ին Սերժ Սարգսյանն անվտանգության խորհրդի նիստ էր հրավիրել: Կադրերում երևում է, թե ինչպես մտնելով նիստերի դահլիճ Սարգսյանը վարչապետի ձեռքն անգամ չի սեղմում, ինչը կարծում ենք արարողակարգի պահանջ է: Նա այդկերպ ողջունում է միայն ԱԺ նախագահին:
Անցյալ սեպտեմբերին Սերժ Սարգսյանը ստիպված էր Կարապետյանին Մոսկվայից Հայաստան հրավիրել Ռուսաստանի հետ լարված հարաբերությունները լիցքաթափելու համար: Մոսկվան մեծապես դժգոհ էր Հայաստանում Սահմանադրական փոփոխությունների և խորհրդարանական կառավարման համակարգի անցնելու որոշումից: և Կարապետյանի նշանակումը յուրահատուկ կոմպրոմիս էր` Հայաստանը կլինի խորհրդարանական հանրապետություն, բայց երկրի ղեկավարը ռուսական գործարար էլիտայից կնշանակվի:
Արդեն գրել ենք, որ Սարգսյանը հույս ուներ (և մինչև հիմա էլ նպատակասլաց աշխատում է այդ ուղղությամբ), որ Կարեն Կարապետյանը երկար չի մնա այդ պաշտոնում, ի վերջո հրաժարական կտա:
Կարապետյանի պաշտոնավարման առաջին ամիսները բավարար էին, որպեսզի ՌԴ-ում նույնպես հասկանան, որ սխալ անձ են գործուղել Երևան: Ճիշտ է, Մոսկվան դեռ շարունակում է աջակցել վարչապետին, և բարձր մակարդակով բոլոր զրույցների ժամանակ տրվում է նրա անունը, ինչպես եղավ նաև Նալբանդյան-Լավրով վերջին ասուլիսի ժամանակ: Սակայն ընդհանուր առմամբ ակնհայտ է, որ նրա հետ մեծ հույսեր այլևս չեն կապում:
Վարչապետի վերջին շրջանի գործունեությունը ցույց է տալիս, որ նա որոշել է այնուամենայնիվ վաստակել այլընտրանքի կարգավիճակը: «Մեդիամաքս»-ի հետ փետրվարի 21-ի հարցազրույցում հարցին`դուք ձեզ քաղաքական գործիչ համարո՞ւմ եք, Կարապետյանը պատասխանում է. «Աստիճանաբար դառնում եմ»:
Նույն հարցազրույցում Կարապետյանի սենսացիոն հայտարարությունը, թե իր կարծիքով 2018-ին ինքը կբավարարի վարչապետի պաշտոնը ստանձնելու սահմանադրական պահանջը, հենց այդպիսի հատկություն ցուցադրելու փորձ էր: Նման մի փորձ էր նաև Սահմանադրական բարեփոխումների և իրավական անվտանգության թեմաներով Ս. Սարգսյանի հրավիրած ԱԽ նիստի հաջորդ օրը կառավարության նիստում Արդարադատության նախարարին նույն թեմայով հանձնարարականներ տալը»:
