ԱՄՆ-ի պաշտպանության նախարար Ջեյմս Մեթիսը փետրվարի 2-ին հայտարարել Է, որ Վաշինգտոնը հավատարիմ կմնա անվտանգության բնագավառում Հարավային Կորեայի հանդեպ ստանձնած պարտավորություններին: Այդ մասին, ինչպես տեղեկացնում Է «Արմենպրես»-ը, հայտնել են հարավկորեական ԶԼՄ-ները:
«Մեր նոր վարչակազմը ժառանգել Է երկու երկրների միջեւ հաստատված շատ ամուր հարաբերություններ: Եվ մեր պարտավորությունն Է՝ դրանք դարձնել Էլ ավելի ուժեղ, հատկապես այն սադրանքներին դեմ հանդիման, որոնք հրահրվում են Հյուսիսից (ԿԺԴՀ), որոնց դուք (Հարավային Կորեան) բախվում եք»,-ասել Է նախարարը Հարավային Կորեա կատարած այցի ընթացքում:
«Ես խոսել եմ ԱՄՆ-ի նախագահ Դոնալդ Թրամփի հետ, եւ նա ցանկանում Էր շատ հստակ հայտարարություն անել այն գերակայության վերաբերյալ, որը մենք տալիս ենք մեր երկու ժողովուրդների միջեւ դաշինքին»,-նշել Է նա:
Մեթիսը Հարավային Կորեա Է ժամանել այդ հանրապետության բարձրաստիճան ներկայացուցիչների, ներառյալ պաշտպանության նախարար Հան Մուն Հուի հետ բանակցություններ վարելու համար: Մեթիսը պլանավորում Է Սեուլում մնալ փետրվարի 2-ին եւ 3-ին, ինչից հետո պլանավորված Է նրա ուղեւորությունը Ճապոնիա, հաղորդել Է «Ինտերֆաքս»-ը:
