♦ Չնայած մեր մոլորակը տիեզերքից կապույտ ջրով ծածկված մարմարի է նման, այնուամենայնիվ, Երկրի մեկ երրորդ մասը ծածկված է մասնակի կամ ամբողջական անապատով։

♦ Աշխարհի ամենախոշոր անապատն Անտարկտիդան է։ Այո՛, անապատ կոչվելու համար պարտադիր չէ, որ տարածքում շոգ լինի, քանի որ անապատ է կոչվում այն տարածքը, որտեղ գոլորշիացումը ջրի բաց մակերեսից գերազանցում է մթնոլորտային տեղումների քանակին կամ այլ կերպ ասած՝ ավելի շատ հեղուկ է գոլորշիանում, քան ստանում է։

♦ Չիլիի Ատակամա անապատում կան տարածքներ, որտեղ երբևէ տեղումներ չեն գրանցվել։ Գիտնականները հավատացած են, որ անապատի որոշ տարածքներ 40 միլիոն տարի շարունակ անապատային էքստրեմալ վիճակում են մնացել։

♦ Ինչևէ, ավելի քան 1 միլիոն մարդ է ապրում Ատակամայում։ Ֆերմերները բավականաչափ ջուր են ձեռք բերում գետնի տակ գտնվող ջրհորներից, հացահատիկ աճեցնում, լամաներ ու ալպականեր պահում։

♦Կլիմայական փոփոխություններն ու այնպիսի երևույթներն, ինչպիսին օրինակ անտառահատումներն են, ամեն տարի նպաստում են 119,000 կմ2 վարելահողերի անապատացմանը։ ՄԱԿ-ի համաձայն՝ անապատացումը 110 երկրներում 1 միլիարդ մարդու է սպառնում։

♦ Ամեն տարի Չինաստանում 2.5 կմ2 տարածք անապատի է վերածվում՝ առաջացնելով մահացու փոշու փոթորիկներ, որոնք շրջապտույտ են կատարում ողջ մոլորակի տարածքով։

♦Չինաստանի  հյուսիսարևելյան շրջանում այժմ թփերի ու ծառերի «Մեծ կանաչ պատի» կառուցապատումը կարող է վերականգնել Գոբի անապատի մի մասի կանաչ տարածքները։ Ծրագրվում է, որ պատը Պեկինի շրջակայքից կձգվի 4506 կմ Միջին Մոնղոլիայի տարածքով։

♦Մասնիկների ֆիզիկան ուսումնասիրող գերմանացի ֆիզիկոսները հաշվարկել են, որ վեց ժամում աշխարհի անապատներն արեգակից ավելի շատ էներգիա են կլանում, քան մարդիկ մեկ տարվա ընթացքում։ Սահարայի 20,900 կմ2 տարածքը կարող է էներգիայով ապահովել ողջ Եվրոպան։

♦ Այս հաշվարկները նպաստել են 2009թ-ին «Անապատային արդյունաբերական նախաձեռնության» ստեղծմանը. մի ծրագիր, որի նպատակն է Աֆրիկայի և Մերձավոր Արևելքի տարածքում արեգակի և քամու էներգիայով աշխատող ֆերմաների ցանց ստեղծել, որն էլեկտրականությամբ կապահովի Եվրոպային՝ բարձր վոլտաժի մալուխների միջոցով։

♦Անապատային այս տեխնոլոգիան մոտավորապես 500 միլիարդ դոլար կարժենա, սակայն մինչև 2050թ-ը այն կարող է 15 տոկոսով բավարարել Եվրոպային շրջակա միջավայրի համար մաքուր էլեկտրականությամբ։
