Բրիտանիայի խորհրդարանի ֆինանսական կոմիտեն սկսել է Վեսթմինսթերյան պալատի վերականգնման ծրագրի ուսումնասիրությունը՝ անհանգստանալով, որ վերանորոգման ընթացքում միջոցները կարող են ոչ արդյունավետ ծախսվել, փոխանցում է BBC-ն:
Համայնքների պալատի ֆինանսական կոմիտեի ղեկավար Էնդրյու Թայրին հայտարարել է, որ «վերականգնման չափազանց թանկարժեք նախագիծը» բավարար հիմնավորված չէ: Վերանորոգման արժեքը կարող է կազմել 4,89 մլրդ դոլար, իսկ աշխատանքները կտեւեն 5-ից մինչեւ 8 տարի:
Թայրիի խոսքով՝ շենքի վիճակի վերաբերյալ զեկույցներից ոչ մեկում չկան այնպիսի տեղեկություններ, որոնք թույլ կտային վերանորոգման մասին «թեկուզ նախնական որոշում» ընդունել: Հետեւաբար, ըստ խորհրդարանականի, նման առաջարկները մանրակրկիտ ուսումնասիրություն են պահանջում եւ լրացուցիչ վկայություններ, որոնք հավաքելով կզբաղվի կոմիտեն:
Նախկինում խորհրդարանականները նախազգուշացրել են, որ առանց վերանորոգման պալատին կամ մասշտաբային արտակարգ իրավիճակ է սպառնում, կամ նրա ենթակառուցվածքը (օրինակ՝ էլեկտրական հաղորդալարերը) խորհրդարանի կարիքների համար ուղղակի անպիտան կդառնան: Այսպես՝ Վեսթմինսթերյան պալատի միացյալ կոմիտեն, որը հետեւում է շենքի վիճակին, երկու պալատներին խորհուրդ է տվել վերանորոգման նպատակով շենքն անհապաղ վեց տարով ազատել:
