 Տեխասից ամերիկացի գործարար Ռեքս Թիլերսոնը, որին ԱՄՆ-ի նորընտիր նախագահ Դոնալդ Թրամփն առաջադրել Է պետքարտուղարի պաշտոնում, պատրաստ Է Սենատի կողմից հաստատվելուց հետո ամեն կերպ պաշտպանել ԱՄՆ-ի շահերը բոլոր երկրների, այդ թվում՝ Ռուսաստանի հետ հարաբերություններում: Ինչպես տեղեկացնում Է «Արմենպրես»-ը, նա դա հավաստել Է Սենատի արտաքին գործերի կոմիտեում իր թեկնածության քննարկման շուրջ անցկացված լսումներում: 
Լսումները շարունակվել են ավելի քան ինը ժամ: Թիլերսոնն ընդգծել Է, որ մտադիր Է իրականացնել Թրամփի արտաքին քաղաքականությունը, քանի որ «պետական քարտուղարն աշխատում Է երկրի նախագահի ցուցումով»: Նրանց հարց են տվել նորընտիր նախագահի հետ հարաբերությունների մասին, որի հետ նա միայն վերջերս Է ծանոթացել: Թիլերսոնը պատասխանել Է, որ նշանակմանը համաձայնել Է այն բանից հետո, երբ համոզվել Է, որ Թրամփն իրապես պատրաստ Է անսալ իրեն: 
Կոմիտեի նիստում Թիլերսոնին աջակցել են նրա կինը՝ Ռենդան, որի հետ նրանք միասին են արդեն ավելի քան 30 տարի, երկու քույրերը եւ այլ ազգականներ: Իսկ պաշտոնական երաշխավորագրեր նրան տվել են տեխասցի գործող սենատորներ Ջոն Քոռնինը եւ Թեդ Քրուզը, նախկին սենատոր Սեմ Նանը եւ ԱՄՆ-ի պաշտպանության նախկին նախարար Ռոբերտ Գեյթսը: 
Ներածական խոսքում Թիլերսոնն անհրաժեշտ Է համարել «անկեղծ երկխոսություն» սկսել Ռուսաստանի հետ: ԱՄՆ-ի պետքարտուղարի թեկնածուն հայտարարել Է, որ «Ռուսաստանն այսօրվա դրությամբ վտանգ Է ներկայացնում» ԱՄՆ-ի համար, «բայց անկանխատեսելի չԷ սեփական շահերի հետապնդման հարցում»: «Մեզ հարկավոր Է Ռուսաստանի հետ բաց ու անկեղծ երկխոսություն սկսել նրա ձգտումների շուրջ, որպեսզի որոշենք՝ ինչ ուղեգիծ ենք ընտրելու»,- ընդգծել Է Թիլերսոնը, հաղորդել Է ՏԱՍՍ-ը:
