Երկրաշարժի առաջին օրը փրկարար-բնակիչները դուրս բերեցին 20 հազար փրկվածի ու 3900 մահացածի. վիճակագրություն

Հայաստանում փրկարական ծառայությունը կայացավ ու զարգացավ Սպիտակի երկրաշարժից հետո: Մինչ այդ հենց երկրաշարժի առաջին օրերին չկային որոշակի կազմակերպվածություն ու փրկարարական ուժեր: Փրկարարական աշխատանքների հիմնական ծանրությունը իր վրա վերցրեց չպատրաստված բնակչությունը: Այդ օրերին աղետի գոտում կատարված փրկարարական գործողությունների ուսումնասիրություն իրականացվել է սեյսմիկ պաշտպանության հյուսիսային ծառայության կողմից՝ դոկտոր, պրոֆեսոր Սերգեյ Նազարեթյանի նախաձեռնությամբ՝ բոլոր տվյալների ու փաստերի հիման վրա:
Ըստ այդ տվյալների` սեփական ուժերը նվազագույն տեխնիկայով առաջին օրը փորձել են փլատակներից հանել կենդանի մնացածներին. փրկվել է 20 հազար մարդ: Հենց դեկտեմբերի 7-ին դուրս է բերվել 3900 զոհվածի մարմին: Երկրոդ օրը կենդանի հանված մարդկանց թիվը կտրուկ նվազել է՝ 5000 մարդ և 6000 զոհված: Հիմնական պատճառը տեխնիկայի բացակայություն էր՝ հիմնականում աշխատում էին ձեռքով ու ունեցած տեխնիկայով: Երրորդ օրը համարվում է փրկարարական աշխատանքների կազմակերպման սկիզբը՝ պրոֆեսիոնալ փրկարարների օգնությամբ դեկտեմբերի 9-ին փլատակների տակից դուրս բերեցին 4800 կենդանի մնացած և 3400 զոհ: Դեկտեմբերի 10-ին վիճակն արդեն վերահսկելի էր, իսկ աշխատաքներն ավելի քան համակարգված. արդյունքում 5700 կենդանի մնացած, մահացած 750 մահացած: Փրկարարական օպերատիվ գործողությունները նաև դեկտեմբերի 11-ին շարունակվեցին 38 000 փրկարարով և 3150 միավոր տեխնիկայով՝ 1800 կենդանի մնացած, 2600 զոհ: Փրկարարական գործողությունները շարունակվեցին մինչև դեկտեմբերի 21-ը՝ դեկտեմբերի 12-21-ն ընկած հատվածում, թեև փլատակներում մնացածների ապրելու կարողության կտրուկ անկում էր, փրկվեց 1000 մարդ, փլատակների տակի ց դուրս բերվեց 8350 դի: Առաջին օգնությունը ԽՍՀՄ հանրապետություններից էր՝ քաղաքացիական պաշտպանության բանակով, ապա առաջիններից Հայաստան եկան նաև փրկարարական ջոկատներ ֆրանսիայից ու Շվեցարիայից:
