Հարավային Կորեայի նախագահ Պակ Կըն Հեն համաձայնել Է պետության ղեկավարի վաղաժամկետ ընտրությունների անցկացմանը: Այդ մասին դեկտեմբերի 6-ին հայտնել Է Associated Press-ը: 

Հարավային Կորեայի առաջնորդի դիրքորոշման մասին գործակալությանը պատմել են «Սենուրի» կառավարող կուսակցության երկու ղեկավարներ՝ Չոն Չժին Սոկը եւ Լի Չժոն Հենը: Նրանց խոսքով՝ Պան Կըն Հեն նշել Է, որ ցանկանում Է հեռանալ ապրիլին, իսկ ընտրություններն անցկացնել հունիսին, եւ չԷր ցանկանա, որ իրեն ինպիչմենտ հայտարարվեր: Սակայն նույնիսկ եթե այն անխուսափելի լինի, գործող նախագահը. միեւնույն Է, «կգործի  հանգիստ՝ ի շահ պետության եւ ժողովրդի»:

Դեկտեմբերի 9-ին երկրի խորհրդարանը քվեարկելու Է իշխանությունից Պակ Կըն Հեին հեռացնելու հարցի շուրջ: Եթե 300 պատգամավորներից 200-ը կողմ արտահայտվեն, հարցը կփոխադրվի Գերագույն դատարանի քննարկմանը: Այն դեպքում, եթե ինը դատավորներից վեցը պաշտպանեն այդ որոշումը, նախագահին իմպիչմենտ կհայտարարվի: Այդ դեպքում ընտրությունները պետք Է անցկացվեն 60 օրվա ընթացքում:Հարավային Կորեայի դատախազությունը նոյեմբերի 20-ին հետաքննության միջանկյալ արդյունքներ Է տարածել Չխվե Սուն Սիլի՝ Պակ Կըն Հեի մտերիմ ընկերուհու գործով: Դրանց համաձայն՝ Չխվե Սուն Սիլին, ինչ պես նաեւ նախագահի վարչակազմի երկու նախկին աշխատակիցների մեղադրանքներ են առաջադրված կոռուպցիայի, կաշառաշորթության եւ ծառայողական լիազորությունների չարաշահման մեջ:

Համարվում Է, որ նրանք ստիպել են 50-ից ավելի հարավկորեական ընկերությունների տասնյակ միլիոնավոր դոլարներ փոխանցել Չխվե Սուն Սիլի կողմից վերահսկվող երկու հիմնադրամներ, որոնք հատուկ ստեղծվել են այդ նպատակով: Քննիչների կարծիքով, Պակ Կըն Հեն առնվազն տեղյակ Է եղել ընկերուհու եւ իր ենթակաների այդ գործողություններին եւ, ամենայն հավանականությամբ, ինքն Էլ Է մասնակցել դրանց:
