Արդյոք Բարաք Օբամայի վարչակազմն առանց աղմուկի ճանաչե՞լ է Հայոց ցեղասպանությունը, գրում է Associated Press-ը: Գործակալությունը նշում է, որ չնայած նրան, որ այդ բառը երկար ժամանակ ԱՄՆ պաշտոնյաների՝ այդ թվում նախագահ Բարաք Օբամայի համար տաբու է եղել, ՄԱԿ-ում Օբամայի դեսպանն անցած շաբաթ ավելի հեռուն է գնացել իր ղեկավարից՝ 1915 թվականի դեպքերը «ցեղասպանություն» որակելով:

Հոլոքոստը վերապրած և Խաղաղության նոբելյան մրցանակակիր Էլի Վիզելի աշխատանքին նվիրված ելույթում ՄԱԿ-ում ԱՄՆ դեսպան Սամանթա Փաուերը ցավ է հայտնել մինչ օրս շարունակվող անարդարությունների վերաբերյալ, այդ թվում՝ նա նշել է «հայերի ցեղասպանության ժխտողականությունը»: Փաուերն իր խոսքերը չի մանրամասնել, գրում է գործակալությունը:

Այս խոսքերը, գրում է Associated Press-ը, կարող են զայրացնել Թուրքիային, որը կատաղի կերպով հակադրվում է ցեղասպանության մասին որևէ հիշատակման և որի ռազմավարական դերը որպես ԱՄՆ գործընկեր և ՆԱՏՕ-ի դաշնակից ստիպել է ամերիկացի պաշտոնյաներին չափազանց զգույշ լինել այդ դեպքերի մասին խոսելիս: Այդ խոսքերը զարմանալի են նաև՝ հաշվի առնելով Փաուերի կարգավիճակը՝ որպես երկրի երկրորդ բարձրաստիճան դիվանագետ և այն, որ դրանք որպես Օբամայի հասցեին հնչեցրած քննադատություն են թվացել:

Գործակալությունը նշում է, որ նախընտրական արշավի ժամանակ Օբաման խոստացել է ճանաչել Հայոց ցեղասպանությունը, բայց չի կատարել իր խոստումը պաշտոնավարության ժամկետում: Մինչև կառավարություն մտնելը՝ Փաուերը պուլիտցերյան մրցանակակիր լրագրող էր, որը գրում էր ցեղասպանություններին ԱՄՆ-ի արձագանքների մասին: Պաշտոնյաները նշում են, որ նա ակտիվ լոբբինգով էր զբաղվում, որպեսզի Օբաման ճանաչի ցեղասպանությունը:

Փաուերի խոսնակը՝ Կուրտիս Կուբերը հայտարարել է, որ ցեղասպանության մասին խոսքերը հնչել են Վիզելի մեծարման համատեքստում և նպատակ ունեին «համոզել մյուսներին կանգնել համակարգային անարդարության, զանգվածային վայրագությունների և ցեղասպանության դեմ, ինչպիսին վերապրել է Վիզելը»: Նա նշել է, որ դրանք չեն արտահայտում վարչակազմի քաղաքականությունում փոփոխություն:

Պետդեպարտամենտի խոսնակ Մարկ Թոներն, իր հերթին, հայտարարել է, որ ԱՄՆ քաղաքականությունում որևէ փոփոխություն չի եղել:
 
«Նախագահը և այլ բարձրաստիճան պաշտոնյաներ բազմիցս որպես պատմական փաստ են ընդունել այն, որ 1,5 միլիոն հայեր կոտորվել կամ աքսորի են ենթարկվել Օսմանյան կայսրության վերջին օրերին, և հայտարարել են, որ փաստերի լիարժեք, անկեղծ և արդարացի ճանաչումը մեր շահերից է բխում»,- ասել է Թոները:
