Հայ-ռուսական միավորված զորախմբի ստեղծումը բխում է Հայաստանի ռազմական անվտանգության շահերից: ՀՀԿ ԳՄ նիստից հետո լրագրողների հետ հանդիպմանն այս մասին ասաց ՀՀԿ խոսնակ, ՀՀ ԱԺ փոխնախագահ Էդուարդ Շարմազանովը: 

«Հայ-ռուսական ռազմավարական դաշնակցությունը տարիների փորձ և պատմություն ունի: Այս համաձայնագրով ընդամենը պայմանագրային բազայի վրա է դրվում այն, ինչ «դե ֆակտո» գոյություն ունի»,-  նշեց Շարմազանովը:

Նա հիշեցրեց, որ Հայաստանում տարիներ շարունակ գործում է ռուսական ռազմաբազան: «Բնականաբար, ռուսական ռազմաբազան է այն անվտանգության երաշխիքներից մեկը, որը պաշտպանելու է Հայաստանն արտաքին ագրեսիայից: Ի դեպ, խաղաղ ժամանակահատվածում այդ խմբավորումը ղեկավարելու է հայազգի սպա՝ ի տարբերություն Եվրամիության երկրների, որտեղ ՆԱՏՕ-ի միասնական խմբավորումը ղեկավարում է ամերիկացի սպա: Սա էլ նրանց համար, ովքեր քննադատում են համաձայնագիրը»,- ասաց ՀՀ ԱԺ փոխնախագահը:

Շարմազանովն անդրադարձավ նաև հնչող գնահատականներին, թե այդ համաձայնագիրը կարող է վնասել հայ-վրացական հարաբերություններին: «Ես կարդացի տարբեր գնահատականներ, թե սա կարող է լարել մեր հարաբերությունները հարևան Վրաստանի հետ: Դա հեքիաթ է: Այդ համաձայնագիրը, ռուսական ռազմաբազայի ներկայությունը Հայաստանում, բացի մեր երկրի անվտանգության պահպանումից, այլ նպատակ չունի: Եվ նման գնահատականներ հնչեցնելը կամ անգրագիտություն է կամ անբարեխղճություն»,- եզրափակեց նա:
