Հատապտուղները պարունակում են հակաօքսիդատներ, որոնք հատապտուղներին հաղորդում են հագեցած գույն եւ դանդաղեցնում են ծերացման պրոցեսը։ Որքան մուգ է հատապտուղը, այդքան ավելի բարձր է հակաօքսիդանտների պարունակությունը:  Օրական մեկ բաժակ թարմ կամ սառեցված հատապտուղները պայքարում են ծերացման դեմ:

Գիտնականները պնդում են, որ օրական ավելի քան երեք  բաժակ կանաչ թեյ խմող մարդիկ ավելի երկար են ապրում: Կանաչ եւ սպիտակ թեյերը պարունակում են ավելի շատ հզոր հակաօքսիդանտ, որը կապված է սիրտանոթային հիվանդությունների, քաղցկեղի տարբեր ձեւերի ավելի ցածր ռիկսի հետ:

Գերմանական հետազոտությունը ցույց տվեց, որ օրական  ոչ մեծ քանակությամբ շոկոլադը 40%-ով նվազեցնում է սրտի կաթվածի եւ ինսուլտների ռիսկը: Հետազոտությունը ցույց է տվել, որ շոկոլադը ուժեղացնում է ուղեղի աշխատանքը եւ նվազեցնում զարկերակային ճնշումը:
