Բոլորն էլ ծանոթ են այս գրիչների հետ, սակայն քչերն են մտածել, թե ինչու են այս գրիչների կափարիչները հենց այս դիզայնով պատրաստված։
1991 թվականին «BIC» ընկերությունը աշխարհին ներկայացրեց այս նոր դիզայնը, որը, սակայն, աննկատ մնաց մարդկանց մեծամասնության համար։ Փոփոխությունն այն էր, որ գրչի կափարիչի ծայրում փոքրիկ անցք էր բացվել։
Այս փոքրիկ փոփոխությունը աննկատ մնաց, սակայն դրա շնորհիվ ամեն տարի փրկվում են մոտ 100 երեխա և նույնքան մեծահասակ։
Բանն այն է, որ փոքրիկ երեխաները սիրում են ամեն ինչ բերանը դնել։ Իսկ մեծահասակները ծամում են գրչի կափարիչը երբ կենտրոնանում են կամ լարված են լինում։ Լինում են մարդիկ, ովքեր պատահմամբ կուլ են տալիս այդ կափարիչը։ Փոքրիկ անցքի շնորհիվ, նրանք կարողանում են բավականաչափ օդ ստանալ մինչև բժշկական օգնություն ստանալը։
«BIC» ընկերության այս որոշում ողջունվել է բոլոր արտադրողների կողմից, և այժմ բոլոր գրիչների կափարիչները ունեն այդ անցքը։
