 Իրաքի կառավարական ուժերը մոտակա ժամանակներս հարավային ուղղությամբ հարձակում կիրականացնեն Մոսուլի վրա` ազատագրելու այն «Իսլամական պետություն» ահաբեկչական խմբավորումից: Վկայակոչելով ՏԱՍՍ-ը, այս մասի ն հայտնել է դաշնային ոստիկանության հրամանատար Ռաիդ Շաքեր Ջոուադը:

«Սպասում ենք կարգադրության` հարձակման անցնելու Մոսուլի օդանավակայանի և էլ-Գազլանի ռազմական ճամբարի վրա ու շարունակելու առաջընթացը դեպի քաղաքի կենտրոն»,- ասել է Ջոուադը: Նա հայտնել է, որ Մոսուլի մերձակայքում հակառակորդի բոլոր պաշտպանական դիրքերը ոչնչացված են:

Իրաքի զինված ուժերի գլխավոր հրամանատար, վարչապետ Հեյդար ալ-Իբադին հոկտեմբերի 17-ին հայտարարել է երկրի երկրորդ ամենախոշոր քաղաքը` Մոսուլը «Իսլամական պետություն» ահաբեկչական խմբավորումից ազատագրելու խոշորամասշտաբ ցամաքային գործողություն սկսելու մասին: Ազատագրման աշխատանքներին մասնակցում են կառավարական ուժերը, քրդական ռազմական միավորումները` «փեշմերգաները», շիական զինված խմբերը: Օդից նրանց հարձակումներին աջակցում է ԱՄՆ գլխավորած միջազգային կոալիցիան:

Մոսուլում, որը գրեթե առանց դիմադրության 2014 թվականի հունիսին տրվել է ԻՊ ծայրահեղականներին, ներկայում գտնվում է շուրջ 1,3 մլն մարդ: Նրանց որպես գերի պահում են «Իսլամական պետություն» խմբավորման ավելի քան 6 հազար զինյալներ: ԻՊ ծայրահեղականները քաղաքը համարում են Իրաքում իրենց մայրաքաղաքը:
